Cross Stitches for the Modern World

Cross stitching may be a quite old craft, but just because it's a bit old fashioned doesn't mean people aren't still doing their fair share of needlework.

Over on Awkward Family Photos, you can enjoy some of the most delightfully modern cross stitches around and many of them are pretty darn funny.

Whether you like geeky referrences, song quotes or just sassy humor, you're sure to find something that will entertain you in this collection.

So check out the whole list here.

What Non-Americans Find the Most Baffling About America

(Cows of Ameica by Stephen Brian Philips)

What's normal to you about your culture may be seriously weird to someone from somewhere else. Over at Reddit, someone asked non-Americans "What is the weirdest thing about America that Americans don't realise is weird?" The responses are funny and sometimes very surprising to those of us from the states. For example, many people commented about the abundance of squirrels in the country and one person found the way we dispose of dead fish down the toilet to be the strangest thing in the world.

One thing that's not all that surprising is just how many of them had their minds blown by our portion sizes.

See all the responses here.

How to Get the Instant Dad Bod -the Hairy Beer Belly Fanny Pack

These days the world expects men to have the perfect figure just as much as women -only six packs are out and dad bods are in. But the dad bod isn't obtainable by everyone. Some skinny men will never be able to put on those sexy curves.

But now there's an alternative for those who can't get their own hairy belly and it even provides you with storage space as well. Unfortunately, the Dadbag isn't available yet, but it soon will be and finally it will make your dreams of a DiCaprio-style belly a reality.

In the meanwhile, you can get an eyefull of these brilliant accessories over on the Dadbag's Instagram.

Terrible Trend Alert: The Avocado Toast Costume

Avocado toast might be one of the most annoying food trends from the last five years -and the fact that Millennials are buying it rather than homes doesn't help. As if avocado toast wasn't bad enough as a food (not that it's bad, just its whole trendiness), it's even more obnoxious as a Halloween costume.

But this year, avocado toast is catching on as the trendy new costume as well. Brit & Co has instructions to make your own, while Parents Magazine can tell you how to make this obnoxious hipster version complete with a child's own "cold brew" chocolate milk.

Worst of all, you can even make your in-bread cat into avocado toast with this Etsy costume by Miss Maddy Makes.

It's only a matter of time until you see crummy lycra costumes in a bag at all those generic Halloween stores out there.

The Stories Behind the Greatest Movie Props of All Time

There are some movie props you will never forget. In fact, some of them are the cornerstone of the film they appeared in -like Wilson from Survivor, Rosebud from Citizen Kane or the Maltese falcon from, you know, The Maltese Falcon. Thrillist recently ranked the 100 best movie props of all time and rather than just write them all down, they also included the stories behind each of the props. It's a fascinating article though you probably won't want to read every single story behind all 100 props unless you have a whole lot of time.

See the whole list here.

The Epic Heels of Zombie Peepshow

Some women like functional flats and some prefer fancy heels, but it takes a special kind of girl to appreciate the wildly over-the-top heels made by Etsy seller Zombie Peepshow.

As you may have guessed from the name, most of the shoes in the shop have a dark twist in them like the Disney shoes up top, but there are plenty that aren't creepy, like these mermaid heels.

But if the shoes aren't horror-inspired, they instead are delightfully geeky -like this set with dinosaurs on the heels.

And like practically every seller who creates geeky stuff on Etsy, there are, of course, the obligatory and awesome Star Wars creations.

So check out the full Zombie Peepshow inventory over at Etsy.

Gestures You Shouldn't Use in Other Countries

Most of us don't think twice about our gestures other than the fact that they might help us communicate our thoughts more effectively. But while your nods and thumbs up might be fine to use in the US, you might want to think twice before using the same gestures in other countries. Even something as seemingly innocent as keeping your hands in your pockets can be seen as rude in Japan and Korea.

So find out more about what your gestrues could mean in other countries here.

The Happiest States in America

Some people can be happy anywhere, but there's no denying that where you live can certainly make a difference in how happy you are. Wallethub recently calculated the relative happiness of people in each state based on three main metrics: how emotionallly and physically well people are there, the quality of the local career options and their community and environmental appeal.

Based on these qualifications, Minnesota, Utah, Hawaii, California and Nebraska are the five happiest, while West Virginia, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Alabama and Arkansas are the least happy. You can see the rankings of all the states in between here.

Disneyland is Making Corn Dogs into Nachos

(Image via First Comes Disney [Instagram])

Feeling hungry and happen to be in Anaheim? Well, if you're looking for something a little different you might want to head to the Grand Californian Hotel at the Disneyland resort where you can get mini corn dogs that are served up like classic nachos complete with cheese, guacamole and more. The tasty treats are only served until the end of September -that's right, you only have about two weeks to get your hands on these bad boys.

These Lord of the Rings Firepits Are A Great Way to Warm Up in the Shire

We previously featured a Lord of the Rings firepit, but it was just a plain old One Ring. The incredible designs by Etsy seller Imagine Metal Art take nerdy firepits to a whole new level -adding layer upon layer of intricate design to each work of art.

The seller offers two different Lord of the Rings designs -the one above as well as this Witch King design

But there are more than just Lord of the Rings designs. Other geeky creations include designs that feature dragons and Star Wars

Check out all the rest of the designs here.

Movie Props That Were Actually Real

(Video Link)

You know how realistic that horse head in The Godfather looks and how terrified the actor appears to be when he sees it in bed with him? Well, that's because the head was actually a real horse head -not a prop. The design team actually tried to make a prop horse head, but Francis Ford Coppola didn't think it looked quite real enough, so instead they bought one from a dog food factory.

Over on TopTenz, you can read about ten movie props that were actually real -including the flame thrower guitar in Mad Max, the skeletons in Poltergeist and the door Jack Nicholson chops down in The Shining.

American Foods Tourists Are Most Excited to Try

When you visit another country, you want to try the local cuisine in order to really get a feel for the culture, but to the people in those countries, the food is just an every day reality. People from other countries feel the same way about your culture's food as well. So have you ever considered what tourists visiting America feel like they just have to try? They you have to check out this Reddit thread on the subject. Just as a spoiler, some of the most common responses are corn dogs, Thanksgiving foods and Creole cuisine.

What's the Weirdest Thing Your Pet Has Ever Done

(Care For Your Pets by Legendary Phoenix)

Pets are magnificent and part of the thing that makes them so great is that no two pets are exactly alike. And in fact, some animals are just plain weird. Over on our Facebook, we recently asked our readers what the weirdest thing their pet ever did was and the answers were as delightfully fun as you might expect. A few examples:

My cat got in the bathroom and took a dump on the toilet like those trained cats we see on YouTube. In the end he sit at the door and looked at me like saying "no one will believe in you"

Or:

My cat opens the freezer and sits in it. When we aren't home, stuff thaws because he doesn't close it when he leaves! He will also sit on the bottom shelf of the fridge and we've accidentally locked him in...

Or:

Tried to use all the remotes in the house to hide his poop. I mean all of them bedroom remote, tv, Dvd, and the Xbox remotes were pushed on top of the pile.

You can read all the great comments here, or add your own weird pet story in the comments on this post.

Quirky Stories About David Lynch

I'm literally watching Twin Peaks as I write this and that's the great thing about David Lynch movies and shows is that you can watch them over and over again and catch new things every time. As it turns out, the man behind these classics is just as fascinating and the strange trivia bits featured in this Vulture article prove it. For example, did you know that he loves quinoa so much he made a surreal video about it? Or that Cameron Crow originally wanted Lynch to be the director of Fast Times at Ridgemont High, but Lynch quite politely turned him down?

You can read all kinds of weird facts about Lynch here (and watch his quinoa video for yourself)

This Dog Constantly Stalks His Owner Wherever She Goes

Do you ever feel like someone's watching you? For most people, that's just a pointless paranoia but in the case of Lauren Birney, she's pretty much always right. Lauren's two-year old bull mastiff, Cyprus, suffers from separation anxiety and never lets her leave his line of sight.

Wherever Lauren goes, Cyprus is sure to follow, whether that means going to the bathroom with her, peering at her from behind the couch or poking his head under the blinds.

Cyprus has earned himself the nickname of "convicted creeper" in his household. "Sometimes I have no idea that he is creeping on me until I get up off a seat or look around the room and find he will be standing behind an object with his head sticking out staring at me," she said.

See more pictures of Cyprus here
