The Best Employee Perks of 2017

For some people, a weekly -or even monthly check is enough, but others care about other aspects of a job more than just the pay. While health and dental benefits are pretty standard, some companies like to be a little more creative. Glassdoor compiled a list of the 20 best employee benefits and the list might just make you want to go on a job search. A few highlights:

  • IKEA offers up to four months of paid parental leave to both part-time and full-time employees with at least one year of experience at the company
  • Scripps Health cares about the wellbeing of its employees’ furry family members, offering pet health insurance for cats and dogs.
  • Insurance company Swiss Re’s “Own the Way You Work” program encourages employees to embrace flexibility with their schedules and work remotely.

So check out the full list over on Glassdoor.

This Cologne Will Make You Smell Like a Kitty

Demeter Fragrance Library is known for their wacky and weird colognes, including the Play-Doh fragrance we've previously covered. Now they've developed a new and fantastic scent based on that warm, cuddly smell of a kitten. No word on whether or not it will affect those with cat allergies, but I guess there's one easy way to find out.

You can buy your cologne over at Demeter -a .10 ounce sampler of the cologne goes for $3 or just dive in for the 4 ounce spray at $39.50.

Utterly Horrible Things People Did to Their Cars While Trying to Make Them Cool

There are a lot of Reddit communities out there, but for those who love cars and a good laugh, Shitty Car Mods is the place to visit. It's almost amazing how many cars are featured on the subreddit because it's just disgusting how many people will do such terrible things to their cars -all thinking the cars look cool.

The Daily Dot rounded up a whole collection of terrible cars from the subreddit and their mini-best of is quite a sight to behold.

So don't miss the whole list over on the Daily Dot.

Rambo the Ram Playing Tetherball

(Video Link)

You might not expect that animals would care much about tetherball, but Rambo the ram can't pass by  any challenge without giving it his best. As this video demonstrates, here's what happens when you give a ram a ball on a string -the end result doesn't leave the ball in great condition, showing why you should never mess with a ram.

The Trocks: The Drag Ballet

Ballet was once largely a male pastime as it requires a lot of strength, but over time it has become largely associated solely with women. But Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo prove that anything women can do men can do just as well only with a comedic twist.

Each member of the drag ballet troop plays both a woman character and a male one. The athleticism is pretty intense -moves designed for female dancers can be particularly hard for heavier male bodies. That also results in the occassionall misstep, but fortunately for the Trocks, the routine (like most drag performances) already has comedy built in, so mistakes just add to the entertainment value.

You can read more about the drag ballet troop over on DCist.

This is Why You Don't Wear a Green Tie to a Press Conference

I don't care if you're the Queen of England or the White House Press Secretary, if you're a public persona wearing something strikingly green in front of millions of people, you should expect someone to mess around by chroma keying your tie.

Sean Spicer just learned his lesson when he wore a green tie to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day to a White House Press Conference and quickly inspired Jesse McLaren to make this video using the tie as a green screen.

Places You Can Live for Under $1000 a Month

You probably know that the cost of living can vary from country to country and while income often goes down as the cost of living goes down, some people can earn the same income no matter where they live. If you are lucky enough to be in that second category, you might find your money will stretch a lot further in the countries featured in Travel and Leisure's list of countries you can live comfortably in for under $1000 a month.

How to Cook Lunch at Work

Yeah, you probably don't want to actually copy what you see in this video if you actually want to keep your job, but if you really just don't give a crap anymore, it is certainly a fun and interesting way to make lunch at work. And crepes are delicious, so there's always that.

This Cat Tried to Eat a Snake and Got More Than She Bargained For

Cats are known for their hunting skills, but that doesn't mean they always know what they're doing. This little kitty found out the hard way that hunting is not always as easy as it seems.

(Video Link)

Unfortunately for Marianne, she ate the snake from the tail end and the snake saw a convenient hole to escape in, which happened to be her nose. Marianne's humans were there to help remove the snake, but while the kitty was obviously happy about having the snake pulled from its nose, the snake didn't survive the encounter.

This Snake is All Smiles

Justine Kobylka is a snake breeder who specializes in making creatures with new and fascinating scale patterns. Her newest creation took eight years to perfect, and it has made her quite famous on the internet as she created a snake adorned with emojis.

A lot of people dislike snakes, whether because they think they look gross, because they aren't cuddly or because they don't seem as loving as other pets, but these smiley pythons might change some of those perceptions (though they still won't feel very cuddly).

The Polish Village Covered in Flowers

Zalipie is a small town in Poland that has a strange and beautiful tradition of painting flowers on just about everything -dating back from the 1800s.

Of course, like all traditions, it had to start somewhere. In this case, it was because the locals started getting new furnaces with chimneys in the 1800s and women decided to cover up blackened walls in their homes with floral paintings. Eventually the tradition spread to other areas of the home and even outside the homes and now it seems the whole town is covered in flowers.

Even the trees have flowers painted on them!

See more pictures of Zalipie's floral paintings over at Travel and Leisure.
