This winter I was in a restaurant, where I watched a guy eat. His chin was about four inches up from the tabletop. His left hand was extended out and around his plate, holding his phone so he could read it, and with his right he was shoveling food in his mouth. Five minutes later a woman joined him at the table and proceeded to consume her lunch in the same manner. They didn't talk to each other, or even make eye contact that I could see. Sitting alone often to eat a meal is sometimes depressing. Watching those two eat made it a little worse.
