Actroid-F looks almost human. Not just in the way its face is sculpted, but the way that it moves. Guinness World Records lists it as the first true android. In the above video, the robot mimics the expressions of its operator. The people behind the project suggest that it could be placed in hospitals as an observer.

Google Translate isn’t doing too well, but I gather that a Japanese professor named Sekine was tired of getting stung by wasps in his laboratory. So he designed and built a mohawk-wearing fembot to climb a ladder and whack the wasps.

AIST’s new HRP-4C robot does a fairly good impersonation of human body movements. This 5’2″ fembot was unveiled at the Digital Contents Expo in Tokyo. The only thing that it needs is a steady energy supply.

Man Brings Fembot Home at Christmas to Meet His Parents

Christmas is all about awkward moments at family gatherings. Le Trung, inventor of the robotic woman substitute Aiko, took that principle to a whole new level when he decided that he should celebrate Christmas with both his parents and his fembot:

The science genius enjoyed a festive dinner with his mum, dad and his £30,000 fembot which he designed and built by hand.

Le, 34, from Brampton, Ontario, Canada, even bought gifts for his dream girl, who is so lifelike she speaks fluent English and Japanese, helped cook the turkey and hang up decorations.

‘Aiko is like any woman, she enjoys getting new clothes,’ he said.

‘I loved buying them for her too.’

Saya, the Creepy Fembot of Japan

Saya, a fembot developed by professor Hiroshi Kobayashi of the Tokyo University of Science in 2004 can recognize and respond to human speech well enough to direct customers in the Takashimaya department store, where she currently "works" as a receptionist:

… the speech-capable robot can provide about 700 programmed responses to questions and commands — enough to direct customers to the appropriate floor, make small talk, and answer a few basic questions about herself and her background.

Pneumatic actuators in Saya’s head allow her to move her neck, mouth and eyes while she speaks. She can produce facial expressions ranging from happiness and surprise to sadness and anger.

She may be a technological wonder, but her creepy face isn’t exactly what I’d expect from Japan. Come on, guys – it’s 2009! Leave the badly molded face to Disney’s Pirate of the Caribbean animatronics – where’s the hot fembots we’d come to expect from you?

No Luck with Real Women, So Geek Built Himself a Fembot!

Le Trung, a 33-year-old computer geek from Brampton, Ontario (yes, he still lives with his parents), didn’t have much luck with dating women. So he did the next best thing: he built himself a fembot!

He said: “Aiko doesn’t need holidays, food or rest, and will work almost 24 hours a day. She is the perfect woman.”

Aiko sparks mixed reactions in public.

Le said: “Women usually try to talk to her. But men always want to touch her, and if they do it the wrong way she slaps them.”
