The Carrot Tree

Posted by Alex in Arts & Crafts, Pictures, Travel & Places on September 20, 2009 at 3:06 am

Sometimes the best idea are the simplest! Marc of Wooster Collective posted this "carrot tree" in Antwerp, Belgium.

Sadly, no other detail is forthcoming – does anyone know what this is all about? A viral campaign to make people eat their carrots? Link

    Excellent - I am so tempted to have a go at doing this to some trees round here.

    Would look a bit silly in the winter, though, so I've got a while.

    The carrot was a guerilla action to create awareness for the first Belgian Carrotmob.

    Check out http://vlaanderen.carrotmob.org (in dutch) or http://carrotmob.org (international) for more info!

    I found out, thanks to my belgian friends: it's to get attention for the belgian "Carrotmob" branch.

    This carrot was planted on the Museumplein in Antwerp to call attention to something called the Carrotmob. The idea is to mob and shop at the groceries that invest most in the environment. It is the very opposite of a boycott, so to speak. See http://vlaanderen.carrotmob.org/ for more pictures.

    @Elwing
    We had a carrot-based flash mob here in Halifax, Canada. We went to all the grocery stores in town and bought as many carrots as we could. Most of it went to a homeless shelter, though they stopped accepting carrots after the first ton or so. I know I ended up having carrot soup for weeks!

    Food Gatherers in Ann Arbor, MI has some carrot planters similar to this. The carrot plays prominently in their story, and their offices are at 1 Carrot Way.
