Manuel Uribe’s Big Fat Mexican Wedding

Some people get a limo ride to their wedding, but not Manuel Uribe. The world’s heaviest man (who once weighed in at 1,230 lb or 560 kg) went to his wedding in a specially decorated bed on top of a flatbed truck:

Mexican Manuel Uribe, 43, wore a white satin shirt and had a sheet wrapped round his legs as he wed his longtime girlfriend, Claudia Solis, in front of 400 guests in a civil ceremony in Monterrey, northern Mexico. The bed – which Uribe hasn’t left in six years – was decorated with a canopy, flowers and gold-trimmed bows.

Two police patrol cars escorted him ahead of a long line of traffic.

Uribe tipped the scales in 2006 at 1,230 pounds (560 kilograms), earning him the Guinness Book of World Records’ title for the world’s heaviest man. He has since shed about 550 pounds (250 kilograms) with the help of Claudia, whom he met four years ago.

Manuel Uribe a.k.a. “Meme” sold the exclusive pictures and all that stuff to some gossip/entertainment/whatever magazzine, and to an US channel i think Univision, don’t know exactly,

First I tought, “oh what a shame, they only wanted money” but then I remembered that he doesn’t have big incomes to keep his diet and personal care, so they were very smart in selling such event, I hope he can keep losing more and more kilos, until reach a “normal” weight,

below is a link (in spanish sorry) to the note from one of those newspaper who couldn’t enter in the event, they put a mean title, “A marriage of weight and money” jealous????

hmmm, I really like the groom in white and the men in black off to his side; really quite beautiful. Saw a news clip on him recently, I guess he’s still actively losing weight and looking into physical/occupational therapy or something like that. it would be pretty amazing if he could walk again.

Now this is a great story. Man loses half a ton of weight and gets married. An inspirational story! Congrats to the both of them.
