World’s Fattest Man Lost Half of Body Weight on Low Carb Diet

Posted by Alex in Food & Drinks, Medicine, Pictures on February 15, 2008 at 4:31 am

Manuel Uribe, who according to Guiness Book of World Record hold the dubious title of Heaviest Man in the World, has lost half his body weight thanks to a low-carb diet:

Medics from Italy and Spain visited him and offered to carry out gastric bypass surgery on the bed-ridden mechanic. But Mr Uribe refused and instead accepted the help of US and Mexican doctors and nutritionists who prescribed a high-protein, low carb diet and exercise regime that he has followed for two years.

This week Mr Uribe announced he has dropped 40.7 stone - 570 pounds - from his high of 89.8 stone - 1,257 pounds - in far less time than doctors had anticipated.

"I’m going to throw a big party," he said from his home in Monterrey, where his mother and fiancée take care of him. "I’m getting out of my house and going for a walk."

Good for you, Manuel! Link

I’m glad he’s looking after his health. Losing weight (especially bad weight) is always a benefit for the long term. Plus, he’ll finally be able to go out and enjoy the World! :)

Yeah, in extreme cases, the low carb diets melt the pounds off. My friend kirk went from about 700 lbs to about 350 in just a couple of years on the Atkins diet. We were going to the buffet every other day, and he’d eat plate after plate of meat and cheese, and still lose weight. It got to the point that the buffet would see us coming in, and put out another tray of chicken on a stick just for him. I’ve never seen a diet with so much eating involved, but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t work.

I went low-carb for a while. Yeah, you lose weight, but it ain’t easy because you feel hungry all the time. There’s a reason the whole world eats bread, rice, and potatoes… to keep from feeling hungry!

Weird how he seems to be losing weight very…er…asymmetrical.

As to the low carb thing - if it works great - but in the end, it’s calories in versus calories used and it really doesn’t matter to your body’s biochemistry (weight loss wise) what those calories are.

Lugging all that fat around and eating a lot of food makes big muscles. Now, wouldn’t it be great if he could keep those huge muscles he has under all that?

I saw a video clip of this guy… I forget where, but he didn’t have clothes on in that clip either. I wonder if he even wears clothes… I mean, whats the point? He has so much flab its like natural coverage.

Rolls aside, that leg looks well on its way to an infection of some sort.

Good for him though, diets are hell, I go on one every other month it seems just to stay at a normal weight.
