Burj Dubai

   I dont know much about photography... but being over 600 meters tall... this photo just doesnt feel right! Sure its a massive structure, but i think someone has played with the perspective here on this one... the land below is just too small!!! Thoughts

   oh I just found something cool. Go to their website http://www.burjdubai.com/ and click on the picture of the building (it says compare)

   It then does a neat comparison of this tower to the other top ones.

   That picture looks more like an artist's rendering than an actual photo. Maybe because of the surreal colours in the surrounding landscape.

    Being over 600meters tall (almost twice as the Empire state building) i think that picture isnt photoshopped or obscured in any way. It probably looks bigger because of the smaller buildings around it which are probably not bigger than maybe 30-50 floors each.

    Sky scrapers make no sense in Dubai, as the veiw from every window is of more and more of dubai.

    Which is no recipe for a pleasing vista.

    I live in Dubai and it looks exactly like that. Its very hazy here now because its 46 degrees celsius thats why it looks so unreal and rendered.

    "burj" means "tower" so when you call it the "Burj Dubai Tower"... it's a bit redundant.

    Then don't waste gas like it was endless!! You don't HAVE to buy their oil, you could go invent new ways of producing energy... Big-Oil is who you should be thanking for high energy prices.

    actually, speculators are at fault for our soaring gas prices. their speculations determine 50% of the price of oil, and when they "see" growth, the price goes up. of COURSE they're gonna see growth, they wanna get paid more money. as soon as stories about it got through the news, gas prices went down. they're starting to creep back up, but miscellaneous stories keep popping up about their impact, and they're holding off. that's why gas prices have leveled off for the last few weeks.

    and i have to say orjan, there is only so much we can do when almost everything our corporations and government buy is made of petroleum: roads, plastics, make-ups, packaging, automobiles, AND in the form of gas. the distribution/service industry accommodates for the majority of our oil consumption, not every-day consumers. we can only do so much to reduce our addiction to foreign oil, and we can thank what grasp of a "free-market" we actually have for that. it is very much the responsibility of our corporations to change their ways.

    this tower is an abomination, and a complete waste of money. i really think man-kind lost its interest in global penis contest a long time ago, but some politicians are still going strong. they can thank the big pharm companies for supplying them with viagra, because now they can go on into their 90s. hooray for huge sky-scrapers.

    Haha, Tim, your hilarious it is not our gas dollars at work. America's number one importer of oil is Canada then Saudi Arabia then Mexico, Venezuela, and Nigeria Those are the 5 most that the U.S. imports from.

    So why don't you say that the Canadians are taking our money and spending it on delicious waffles.

    Just because they have a flourishing economy doesn't mean you have to bash it.

    Regardless of the poor character (and use of profanity) of people such as Tim Giachetti, this is truly a remarkable achievement. I'm sure that if this were being built in the USA, Tim would probably be drowing about it!

    As for the cost of gas, anyone who thinks it's totally in the hands of the oil companies has GOT to learn some facts! Oil companies have to pay for the crude petroleum before they can refine it (another cost). When the Arab oil barons start running up oil to the price of $140 per barrel (for a 55 gallon drum), a simple hand calculator will tell you that it's an expensive proposition. If oil companies don't have the cash, they've got to borrow it in order to buy the crude. This raises the price per gallon still higher. And let us remember that oil companies, just like your local grocery store, are entitled to a return on their monetary investments.

    So let's stop griping about the cost of a gallon of gasoline, and once again offer congratulations to the city of Dubai for their remarkable accomplishment in erecting the Burj Dubai.
