I don’t know what kind of silly German talk show this is but somehow, the host managed to get Lionel Richie to sing “Hello” with his lungs filled with helium. Odd as it may seem, it’s quite funny.

the name of the show is “wetten das”! VIP are guests in the show and they have to make a bet one something! when they loose the have to fullfill somthing! looks like lionel lost his bet and this was what he had to do!

This was on “Wetten dass…”. The host is Thomas Gootschalk. In this show every guest has to place a bet. if you loose, you have to to something nice.

The show is (sadly and strangely enough) one of the biggest TV shows in Germany, spanning multiple hours at the absolute peak prime time during the weekend.
Actually, Wiki even has it listed as the most popular show in Europe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wetten,_dass..%3F). YIKES!

It is still Europe’s biggest TV Show and therefore the only reason for stars like him to perform regularly.. He lost his bet, so he had to sing it on helium, cause the Host had that idea.. in Germany it always has like.. 10 to 14 million viewers at a total population of 80 million. And that’s only the TVs.. since it is classified as a family program it will be the majority of Germany watching it and talking about it afterwards, so all of these world famous stars do silly things there, knowing they as well increase their popularity here and appear more human.

it’s true that “Wetten Dass?” is germany’s if not one of europe’s most popular shows. it’s been on for probably somewhere around twenty-five years. yet it has to be said that they’ve lost a lot of their shine. the current presenter (thomas gottschalk, the dude with the blonde perm) is way over the hill and needs to retire badly. that you might as well tell him yourself – he resides in malibu.

I used to watch “Wetten, dass …” every Saturday when I was growing up. This show has been on TV since 1981. My parents still tape it for me whenever it comes on and send it to me. It is so entertaining and every show is different. The host “Thomas Gottschalk” actually lives in California. The next show will be on March 1st in Halle, Germany. Live. I can’t wait to see it.

I can’t help it. Sad or not, I grew up with my mother listening to this sort of stuff (I know all the words…as a matter of fact) and I can’t help but let a little snerk escape.
