Gotta Digg

(YouTube link)

Kina Grannis recorded this love song to Digg as an entry in the Dorito’s Crash the Superbowl contest. The lyrics are on her site. She’s now one of the final ten contestants. The reaction from Digg is best summed up in this comment:

Cute girls on digg? Video or it didn’t happ– oh, I see what you did there. Well played, girls.

Sheesh I am SO over these videos of women stroking their collective egos by filming themselves sing, dance, etc. etc., and posting them on youtube and other sites so they can read all the gushing comments about how hot and sexy they are, etc. etc. etc. Just as annoying as videos of people playing video game tunes.

This video wouldn’t be top 10 if it weren’t for the dolled up singer. Weak.

Sorry, rant of the day over.

This isn’t her actual entry for the competition. Her actual song is quite good. If you have a myspace account you should vote for her. In my opinion she was the best. Not my taste in music but her lyrics are very good.

Nothing special about this video. Three girls singing a song - so what?

I’m with Geekazoid. Lets stop acting like girls did something important when if a guy did it we would laugh at them.

Yeah because the only reason a woman should be on the net is if she’s hot and showing her tits.

Don’t mean to be rude, it’s just that I’m just sick and tired of sexism

Artistic value aside, don’t let older people see/hear this. They *will* think the young lady is telling you she’s “Got a dick”… No really. They will.

So thanks interweb, just what I needed for the holidays. Trying to explain to my old mother that you’re not full of sick porn, and that ’social bookmarking’ isn’t dirty.

Man, oh man. If you can’t see that a song about Digg that mentions Kevin Rose, Ron Paul, and Apple by name isn’t the equivalent of social-media jet fuel, you’ve been asleep during Web 2.0 This girl, or those around her, know exactly what goes viral. More power to her! If Doritos doesn’t parlay this into mass anticipation during the SuperBowl, someone will be fired from their advertising division. She’s in it to win it and this is a brilliant approach.

“Gotta Digg” isn’t the contest entry. “Message From Your Heart” is. “Gotta Digg” was something she did for fun on her daily blog.

@ Geekazoid - The lead singer made it into the top ten in the contest before the Digg video was even created. These girls seem intelligent and tech-savvy - I think they just wanted to have a little fun and be goofy, people need to lighten up.
