Insect Songs

150_insectsongHear snippets of the sounds made by twenty different common “singing” insects, such as katydids and crickets. I recognized several from my own backyard! You’ll also want to explore other parts of the Songs of Insects site. Link -via I am Bored

Wow, I love those. We’ve got cicadas around here atm and they sound exactly like those scissor grinder ones, actually I came across a pair on the ground earlier this evening and they scared the bejeebus out of me with the sounds they made – I hadn’t realized they were there and man, are those suckers LOUD! But somehow so very soothing, I wish that site played those recordings on a continuous loop as they’d be lovely to go to sleep to …

(heh, and my cat can apparently vouch for the authenticity of those recordings, he never pays any mind to my computer but just now as I was playing those clips he came over -mightily- intrigued by the exciting insect noises …)
