What Does a Bull Actually Do in a China Shop?

Posted by Alex in Animal, Video Clips on August 28, 2007 at 1:52 am

We’ve all heard the phrase "like a bull in a china shop." But what does a bull in a china shop really do?

Here’s a Mythbuster episode, with somewhat surprising outcome: Hit play or go to Link [YouTube] - Thanks Jon Mikulanis!

That’s pretty damn cool (and I don’t think this episode has been broadcast here yet). The different voice over is kind of annoying I prefer the UK guy!

Yep, a better saying would be “a toddler in a china shop.” I went several years without indulging in my passion for antique stores because of my feisty kids!

I’m wondering if it has anything to do with the bright colors of the shelving units. Other than that, this is really neat!

How about “A Mythbuster in a China Shop”? That’d be more appropriate after seeing the last 20 seconds of that clip, with the three of them knocking everything down.

But I guess that wasn’t clumsiness, so it’d need a new definition too. Never mind.

Poetry can be disproven with science?

I smell a producer heavy segment.

Fun clip… like to see more on here like that. I like Myth Busters when there isn’t much else on.

Truly not what I expected the outcome to be.

“I’m wondering if it has anything to do with the bright colors of the shelving units. ” -I thought bulls were colourblind….

    Those people were pretty annoying.
I wouldn’t be able to watch a whole show of them.

They did not try it with an actual china shop. If you watch the video again, they show a small clip of a bull in a china shop doing some damage. I think that they did not have near enough china and that their shelves were too far apart.

Bulls ARE colorblind. I didn’t think the simulation of a china shop was any good, because it was held in a pen, which they are familiar with. If it was like an actual china shop somewhere downtown or on Main St., I think they would just wreck everything there because they’re simply nervous about the unfamiliar environment. Obviously, they couldn’t do that…but, eh. To me this video doesn’t really prove anything.

We all know what REALLY happens, from watching all those Schlitz malt liquor TV ads when we were kids (such as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pS2RAc4Cu8U).
