Smile Trainer

If you are like millions of women (or men I guess) who are self conscious about your smile, now you can have a perfect smile in only minutes, with the Beauty Smile Trainer. Just place the rubber trainer in your mouth for an instant forced smile.

I’m not sure if you need to keep it in place to maintain the smile or if the smile “sticks” after enough training. Ah, Japanese innovation at work. via Gizmodo

I can say so many things about this picture and they would all be so very wrong.

    Cuimhne,

I actually would have bought one out of curiosity … I just couldn’t find where they sell it online! I’m a total sucker for gadgets that makes no sense.

Just like Mother used to say: “Keep doing that and your face will stick that way!”

I saw a TV clip one time of Asian people (I believe they were retail workers) in actual smiling classes where they were holding a pencil width-wise between their teeth (presumably to hold the corners of the mouth back in a broader smile.) It seems the bigger, wider, toothier smile is considered better and more welcoming (and probably “more American”.)

Acedia - I saw a similar clip, perhaps the same one, in the documentary “The Human Face” hosted by John Cleese.
