Pillow Fight 2007

This is a scene from the Second Annual San Francisco Pillow Fight, where over 1000 people showed up to pummel and hug each other on Valentine’s Day. You can see more footage (plus a couple great videos) over at Laughing Squid, or compare to last year’s pillow fight. (via Digg)

VideoSift: Geek Channel.

Posted by Alex in VideoSift on February 16, 2007 at 1:38 pm

We took a look at VideoSift’s politics channel last week, so let’s take a look the geek video channel.

Think your locker or bike is safe because it’s padlocked? Think again: this combination padlock can be opened in under a second with a simple shim: Link

If you think your house’s front door lock is safe, think again: it takes only seconds to open that too: Link

This short and sweet clip shows a neat series of railside graffiti (okay, "urban painting") art that look like a stop-motion animation when viewed from a moving train!

The artwork was done by Bonom and Lork at the Etterbeek train station, Belgium.

Link

This clever kinetic sculpture, made by Steve Hollinger, is a self-contained artificial heart made from broken bulbs and melted glass capillary tubes, powered by the sun.

As the sun warms up the liquid, it flows through a network of glass tubes just like blood!

Link

For the armchair traveler, a neat little video by Agosax about the many weird places in the world as seen through the eye of Google Earth.

Link

Good: video clip about sand castles being blown up.
Better: in slo-mo explosion.
VideoSift awesomeness: in reverse!

A neat eye candy from Sand Blasters.

Junko Mizuno [wiki] is a Japanese artist. She debuted in 1996 with a booklet called MINA animal DX. Her drawing style mixes childish sweetness and cuteness with blood and terror -a so-called kawaii noir style-. She describes her artwork as “The Powerpuff Girls on acid.”. Besides her comics, sometimes published in color, she designs T-shirts, calendars, postcards, and other collectibles. Mizuno has participated at Angoulême International Comics Festival. In the U.S., Viz Comics has published some of her work.

In this video, Jonathan Ross interviews Junko Mizuno for the Japanorama BBC series.

Yet Another Bra Made of Gold.

Posted by yayo in Fashion on February 16, 2007 at 4:26 am

It’s another golden bra. I don’t understand a word of the page (it’s written in Korean). I hope they said something about the apparent “lack of freedom” the model is suffering. Cool for a Princess Leia costume, though.

Hulk Hogan’s Rock ‘n Wrestling.

Posted by Excellent in Comics & Cartoons, Video Clips on February 16, 2007 at 12:08 am

Hulk Hogan’s Rock ‘N Wrestling [wiki] was a Saturday morning cartoon that aired on CBS from 1985 to 1987. The show, produced and animated by DiC Entertainment and AKOM, featured WWF stars including Hulk Hogan, Rowdy Roddy Piper, André the Giant, The Junk Yard Dog, Tito Santana, The Iron Sheik, and others. Hogan was the leader of the faces, or good guys, and Piper was the leader of the heels, or bad guys. Even after Piper had turned face and Andre turned heel in the WWF, the show continued to air in reruns on CBS. The show is currently available on VHS and has yet to be released on DVD.

Now You Know.

Posted by Excellent in Book & Literature on February 16, 2007 at 12:08 am

Let me get this out of the way in the beginning: I don’t know Tony Arcabascio (one of the guys from Alife) or what his deal is, but the guy comes off like the biggest badass in history with the “how to” guides he wrote for Arkitip magazine. The book is a collection of all those articles, boasting titles like “Make A Slim Jim” (the kind you break into cars with), “Avoid Assault Charges,” “Torch A Car,” “Turn A Man Into A Boy,” “Make The Girls Love You,” “Turn $1 Into $20,” etc. This is grand entertainment and kinda inspirational. True or not. It’s well written, and I have to admit that I’m really pumped up to get out there after reading a couple of these. 64 pages, 13 articles, comes in a neat heavy matte slipcase.

Hang Time.

Posted by Excellent in Video Clips on February 16, 2007 at 12:07 am

Hang Time [wiki] was an American teen sitcom that aired from 1995-2000. The teen-oriented program aired on Saturday mornings on NBC as part of the network’s TNBC morning block.

Similar to Saved by the Bell: The New Class, the show dealt with many of the issues that everyday teens are faced. During the series’ run, the show addressed issues of dating, drug and alcohol use, racism, a character dealing with HIV discrimination and other school-related issues.

Unlike other teen-oriented shows, Hang Time also dealt with the pressures the Deering teammates felt due to all of their games coming down to buzzer beaters.
