The Marilyn Monroe Building

Posted by Alex in Everything Else on December 17, 2006 at 1:02 am

Yansong Ma of the Beijing-based architecture firm MAD created this stunningly curvaceous building for the a new 50-storey condo in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

Everyone’s heard of the Bilbao Effect, but what about the Mississauga Effect?

Don’t laugh, it could happen; especially now that the winner of that city’s first-ever international condo design competition has been revealed. Selected from 92 submissions from 70 countries, the chosen entry is a stunning and sensuous 50-storey tower that dips and curves in all the right places.

Already it has been nicknamed Marilyn Monroe.

Mississauga is a soulless sprawl, and its only identity is a distinct lack of identity. If there is such a thing as a “Mississauga Effect”, you had better hope it steers clear of your area.

I also live there, as do many soulful people, you might even say it’s a soul town.

Did you know they’re going to build a second tower next to the ‘Monroe’ building?
