Russian Ballet Dancer Wears Strange Costume So He Can Act Out A Fight Between Two Kids

Ballet is usually all about grace, elegance and beauty, and the audience is usually just as classy and refined as the dance, so you'd never expect to see a fight at the ballet.

Which is why the audience was astounded when Russian ballet dancer Oleg Chernasov of the Igor Moiseyev Ballet came out wearing a crazy costume and did a strange dance that looked like two kids fighting on stage.

Are You Lost In The World Like Me?

It's easier than ever for people to distract themselves and stay distracted by their smartphones and tablets, because looking around means facing the fact that the world is becoming more dystopian by the day.

But you can only hide from the truth for so long, and if you spend too much time hiding your head in the digital sand you're likely to miss the moment when you go from being a flesh and blood human to a tech zombie.

Are You Lost In The World Like Me? is a dark and disturbing animated music video drawn in an old timey style by the amazingly talented animator Steve Cutts, created for the song by Moby & The Void Pacific Choir.

What Flight Attendants Notice First About Passengers As They Board

Flight attendants scrutinize the passengers on their flights more than they let on, and even though most people think of them as little more than servers in the sky they're trained to spot problems before the passengers are finished boarding.

In fact, most flight attendants start to check out the passengers on their flight while they're waiting, so what do flight attendants look for as they size up the folks on their flight?

For a start they check to see if you're inebriated:

According to Sjaak Schulteis, who was a cabin attendant for Lufthansa for 30 years, drunk passengers can be refused entry aboard the aircraft.

"If a guest coming aboard is drunk or intoxicated by any drug, it can happen that he or she is not allowed to enter the plane. [...] The first impression is often the right one, and we do refuse passengers who might be a danger for the safety of that flight. So far I have refused four passengers and was luckily backed up by the purser and captain. All of these were drunken passengers."

They also check to see if you're muscular, so they can go to you if they need backup:

"I consider this person a resource for me. In the event of an attack on the flight or on me, these are my 'go-to' people. If a situation looks like it could develop, I'll privately and discreetly ask one of these people if they would be willing to help us if necessary. Help might involve subduing or restraining an unruly passenger. We hope it never happens, but we will prepare just in case it does."

And they always keep their eyes peeled for other airline employees, because they can be really helpful in a pinch too:

Bridger says that she tries to " learn if we have any passengers who are airline employees, particularly crew members who have been trained in the in-flight procedures."

She says "They've been trained in what to do in an emergency, whether medical, mechanical, etc. They know how to handle the situations as well as I, and are trained to become an instant 'team member,' fitting right in immediately if needed. They are an invaluable resource for me, and I like to know who they are and where they're sitting."

Is Death By Guillotine Painless?

Even though the guillotine looks like a brutal and painful instrument of death it's creator Joseph-Ignace Guillotin claimed it was a more humane method of execution because the condemned didn't feel a thing as the blade chopped their heads clean off.

And according to Roger Kryson of Quora this claim is true because the blade "immediately severs the nerves from your spinal cord to brain", resulting in but a split second of pain before death:

The clean cut would paralyze you after severing your vertebrae, so pain receptors would no longer send signals as your nerves are severed and your body is non-functional. This is, of course, assuming you’re alive after having your head completely chopped off by a 10-pound blade accelerating at speeds of 40 mph, which you wouldn't be. You wouldn't even feel the cold touch of the blade as it sliced into your neck hair; it would be too fast.

For those saying that spasms have been witnessed after execution by guillotine, it should be noted that spasms such as involuntary jerks, eye fluttering, and twitches can occur up to five minutes after death. This is because the brain suffocates, but it does not mean the presence of pain is there. Many people who pass away naturally and painlessly in a hospital bed will twitch, their eyes flutter, and even have bowel movements minutes after death. Once you are dead, you can't “feel” anything, including pain. As for studies mentioned about brain activity continuing in rats after severing of the head, the same goes. Brain activity can still be present after death, but that does not mean the subject is alive, nor [does it have] the defined senses of feeling.

His answer doesn't take into account the fact that many executioners used to purposely dull the blade to cause their victims more pain, but when it worked the guillotine sliced through necks like a hot knife through butter.

Hang These Charts On Your Refrigerator And Never Waste Food Again

My wife and I are always looking for ways to make changes in the kitchen so we don't waste as much food, and over the years we've gotten better about eating our leftovers and buying less food more often so it doesn't spoil.

But it's hard to keep track of how long foods last and where they should be stored, especially when we come across something new at the grocery store we'd like to try out.

Which is why we printed out these awesome charts created by meal planning service Cook Smarts and hung them on our fridge, so we know how long we've got to eat all that yummy produce and whether it should go in the fridge or be left out.

They also made a three-page guide dealing with frozen food storage that takes the guesswork out of which foods can be stored in the freezer, how they should be stored and for how long.

The Art Of The Punk Black Leather Jacket

Before the punk movement came along rebels and anarchists kept their controversial views well hidden to avoid getting arrested or strung up by a posse, but then punk came along and make civil unrest cool again.

Punks began to proudly declare their independence from normalcy by wearing political slogans on their clothes, and the style trend all started with slogans painted on the backs of their leather jackets.

With hand-painted images and lettering these embellished leather jackets made a political statement, showed love for their favorite bands and showed their commitment to an anti-corporate DIY life.

The Remains Of Chinese Laborers Found In Peruvian Pyramid

Archaeologists have discovered one strange fact regarding slavery that's rewriting many history books- Chinese slaves and indentured laborers appear to have more of an impression on the world than anyone thought.

We know Chinese laborers helped build the railroads that connected America, and they helped construct many of the major cities in the United States and Canada, but it appears North America was not their last stop in the West.

New evidence suggests around 100,000 Chinese laborers sailed to South America in the mid-19th century as the slave trade began to decline in England and America, and so many of them landed in Peru they soon accounted for ten percent of the population:

The landowners of Peru, though, still wanted cheap labor for their sugar and cotton plantations, for rich guano mines, and for the expansion of the railroad. The government eased the way for former slaveholders with financial grants and subsidies for bringing new indentured laborers to the country. Many of those new contracted workers came from China, where political unrest had created a population of displaced people in need of work. Between 1849 and 1874 around 100,000 Chinese contract laborers, mostly from the province of Guangdong, sailed to Peru under restrictive labor contracts that tied them to landowners from years.

By 1876, the Chinese community in the city had grown so much that it accounted for about 10 percent of total population. In the city, they worked as servants, artisans, or small business people, running stores and restaurants in what would become Lima’s Chinatown. A select few Chinese immigrants became planters and merchants themselves.

So why were the remains of Chinese laborers discovered in an ancient Peruvian pyramid?:

The remains discovered on the Lima pyramid reflect both the improving conditions for Chinese laborers and their exclusion from parts of Peruvian society. As their economic conditions improved, Chinese families were able to afford more than simple shrouds for their dead. But authorities would not have Chinese people buried in Catholic graveyards, and the ancient pyramids “had a sacred association that might have made them attractive places for burial by Chinese laborers,” Roxana Gomez, who led the archaeological team, told Reuters.

Going To Conventions - Expectations Vs. Reality

Fandom conventions are such a big deal these days the internet can't stop buzzing about them all, and if you look at all the pics online you'll start to believe these Cons are magical affairs where a nerd's dreams can come true.

But as soon as you arrive at your first major convention you realize the crowds and the lines are going to kill most of your time- and kill your drive to attend another Con.

The stories also claim Cons are a great place to meet your favorite comic creators, but you know what happens when "we discover that our idols are very ordinary men and women".

This colorful comic by JHALL will show you what to actually expect when you're Con bound, and while the expectations hardly ever match the reality you'll still love that Con feel if you just embrace the pain.

Sci-fi movies make living on another planet look like a great big adventure, but when your planet is barren and boring those sci-fi stories sound like nothing but baloney.

An Art Restorer Gets Sucked Into Her Work In "Reflet"

Everyone sees something different when they look at a painting, and while some see the color and brush strokes others are transported to another place as their imagination is sparked by the artwork.

Painters often see their own works as a combination of the two, as their brushwork brings the image in their mind to life on the canvas, and restorers must be as meticulous as the artist when cleaning years of grime off the paint.

But if a restorer stares at a painting long enough it can start to suck them in...

Vintage Photos Of Gangsters, Prostitutes And Drag Queens From Tokyo's Red Light District

Tokyo has a wild and wooly Red Light District just like any other big city in the world, but like everything else in life the Japanese version of Hooker's Hideaway is more diverse and more interesting than the rest.

Where else can you see Yakuza thugs rubbing elbows with super kooky looking drag queens and prostitutes who look like they just stepped out of an anime series?

These sensational pics were taken by street photographer Watanabe Katsumi, who lurked around Shinjuku's red light district Kabukichō during the 60s and 70s capturing still images of the wild street life:

Kabukichō is the red light district in Shinjuku, a commercial and administrative ward in central Tokyo. Apparently Kabukichō took its name from plans to build a kabuki theater in the district sometime in 1940s. This never happened. Instead the area became a busy red light world of nightclubs, hostess clubs and love hotels. It’s estimated there are some 3,000 such enterprises operating in Kabukichō today. At night, the busy neon-lit streets thrive with the curious and the criminal—around a thousand yakuza are said to operate in the area. All this relentless activity gave Kabukichō its nickname as the “Sleepless Town” (眠らない街).

Watanabe thought of Kabukichō as his theater and the men and women who posed for him as his actors. He approached each of his subjects and offered to take their picture.  He took the pictures quickly. But whatever he said to make each individual sufficiently relaxed worked. His photographs captured something unguarded and utterly spontaneous about his subjects. The next night he would return, deliver three prints of each photograph for 200 yen—roughly around a dollar back then. This was how he made his living.

Questionable Life Hacks You Should Totally Try

Life hacks are supposed to improve our lives and make annoying tasks easier to manage, and these life hacks are usually "invented" by people who came up with a quick and easy way to do something on the fly.

However, their improvised nature is exactly what makes life hacks so hit and miss, because systems devised in a flash usually fall apart under scrutiny.

Take these AquaFresh nails for instance- they look just fine from afar, and would probably work great for a photo shoot, but anyone who looks closer is going to think you're a nutjob for using toothpaste as nail polish.

And zeroing out the tip on your restaurant check doesn't make you a budget-conscious diner- it just makes you a cheap jerk.

That's the beauty of these extremely questionable life hacks- they're not supposed to work, but many of them seem like they actually might work so naive and gullible people will try them out just to see.

So get out there and share these questionable life hacks with gusto, then get ready to bust a gut as the boneheads you know slip on a pair of "waterproof socks".
