Fossilized Copulating Turtle Couple Discovered In Germany

These shell backed lovers were fossilized while doing the nasty around 47 million years ago, and now have the distinction of being the only vertebrate fossils ever found frozen in the act of making love.

The mating couple were found in a German quarry called the Messel Pit, where five more pairs of copulating turtle couples were found, making this site the new home for paleontologist jokes and one liners about mating turtles.

Anybody have a good turtle joke they'd like to share?

Massive Mayan Temple Sculpture Made Out Of Chocolate

This amazing chocolate sculpture was created by pastry chef Francois Mellet, who broke a Guinness world record by using over nine tons of the sweet brown stuff to build this awesome Mayan temple.

The subject is Kukulkan pyramid from Chichen Itza, Mexico, and Francois was very particular about making this piece perfect:
Extensive planning and research set the groundwork to accurately capture the details and intricacies of an authentic Mayan temple down to the exact number of steps and panels representing numbers significant to the Mayan calendar. Built proportionally to the ancient temple’s true size, the solid chocolate pyramid is six feet tall and its base measures 10 feet by 10 feet – exactly one-thirtieth the size. The sculpture’s base alone weighs more than 3,000 pounds.

I imagine it would be hard for a chocoholic like myself to become a chocolate sculptor, because we'd be too busy eating the medium to get any work done!

The Hippest Hamster Band In All The Land

(YouTube Link)

These cute little fuzzballs deliver one heck of a musical performance, once they get past the urge to chew on their instruments.

They lay down some tasty grooves like a well polished jazz quartet, and if they ever go on tour you can bet they'll be playing for peanuts!

Thought Provoking Sculptures And Illustrations By Nishio Yasuyuki

Nishio Yasuyuki is an artist and sculptor whose works have a compelling story to tell, and bring to mind images of a dark, wondrous place born out of our collective subconscious.

Despite being massive in scale, Nishio's sculptures are full of fine naturalistic details which may take the viewer a moment to fully realize.

His illustrations are equally detailed, like a strange naturalistic stream of thought, with my fave of the bunch being "Fight The Cause Of Justice".

Beautiful Lifelike Crepe Paper Birds

This gorgeous collection of crepe paper birds was crafted by lover of all things avian Aimee Baldwin, who refers to her works as Vegan Taxidermy. They're full of fine detail, wonderfully rich colors and a realism that will make you wonder how they're able to breathe underneath that glass dome! 7 Futurama Gadgets That May Become A Reality

The gadgets and inventions featured on the animated TV show Futurama may seem pretty far out, but you might be surprised to find that some of these scifi gadgets may soon become a reality.

We've already seen holograms appear which allowed Tupac to perform from beyond the grave at Coachella, and Smell-o-vision became a noxious reality back in the 60s, although we're a long way from being able to smell other planets.

So what sort of fancy gadgets should we expect to see next? I really hope it's the Holophonor, or else I just blew a bunch of money learning how to play the Grumpy Snail!

Harry Potter Theme Played On Wine Glasses

(YouTube Link)

The guy featured in this video is extremely adept at playing the rims of wine glasses, and probably prefers to drink his vino straight out of the bottle.

Watch as he plays the Harry Potter theme song, infusing it with an alcoholic charm and maintaining his wicked finger callouses. It's a magical rendition, especially if you're already a few glasses deep!

A World With No Math

(YouTube Link)

In a world without formulas, measurements or rhythm everything will fall apart and people will start freaking out.

At least that's what John Oliver, Julie Bowen, Simon Helberg and Michael Boatman are claiming with this hilarious PSA for the serious Save The Children  campaign. It brings the funny to a worthy cause, count me in!

An Unusual Way To Create A Character

Artist David Habben has an unusual creative process behind his whimsical illustrations-he creates a basic outline/shape then fills the interior with detail.

He twists and contorts his characters to fit within the space created by the outline, forcing them to conform in a way which actually aids creativity, even though it seems like a hindrance.

David's works may be the shape of things to come in the world of illustration, and for the rest of us the idea makes for a pretty nifty form of drawing exercise.

DryBath - Waterless Bath In A Bottle

22 year old South African college student Ludwich Marishane has invented a substance which allows you to take a bath without a drop of water.

It's called DryBath, and it's a Purell like substance which kills 99.9% of bacteria on the skin, leaves the user smelling good and feeling clean and has a price tag which people across the globe can actually afford (about fifty cents per bottle).

Take note humanity, now you no longer have an excuse for stinking up the joint!

Comedy Video - Hughes The Force

(YouTube Link)

Hughes The Force is a geeky fanmade video with lots of heart. It's a loving tribute to Star Wars, geekdom and the films of John Hughes (mostly Weird Science).

It comes to you courtesy of Kevin Smith's YouTube channel, and it's hosted by Kevin's pal Jason Mewes, but it seems rather tame by their standards. Nevertheless, it's a fun way to waste half an hour!

A Where's Waldo Style Poster For Diablo III

This fun and figure packed poster captures the character searching fun of Where's Waldo with a Diablo related theme, because the guy you're searching for in this pic is the director of Diablo III Jay Wilson.

It looks like a confusing mass of miniscule details at this size, so make sure you hit the jump if you really want to search for Jay and see just what the heck's going on down there!

Literary Journeys On The BART

The BART (Bay Area Rapid Transport) is the most popular form of public transportation in San Francisco and surrounding cities, and many commuters enjoy reading a book to pass the time on the ride home.

This new series of art posters by Owen Smith illustrate the commuter's imagination running wild, as they read books by authors linked to the Bay Area such as the author of The Maltese Falcon Dashiell Hammett. Owen's posters are currently posted in BART stations all over the Bay Area.

India's Answer To Pixar's Brave

Pixar's upcoming movie Brave looks pretty freakin' sweet, and is sure to fill lots of theater seats this summer. The Indian knockoff, on the other hand, looks ridiculously bad and went straight to DVD well before Brave's opening night.

Normally, these cheesy knockoffs time their DVD releases so that they coincide with the official version, so people are tricked into renting the knockoff. I guess the people behind Kiara The Brave weren't aware of the protocol behind ripping off a major studio release.

Hit the link if you want to see the trailer for this sad copycat, it's worthy of a sarcastic chuckle.

Dragon Statue Made Out Of CD Shards

This dragon statue has a real sharp look about it, and it was once able to hold many megabytes of information, so it's (somewhat) useful!

It's an opalescent dragon for the information age, and the many sharp edges will make you feel alive again...with pain! 136 blank CDs were harmed in the making of this dragon statue...
