Childhood is a time of discovery and learning, and as we grow up we learn what we should or shouldn’t put into our mouths.

We usually arrive at these conclusions when we're chomping down on a rotten piece of fruit or eating something gross that triggers our revulsion reflex, and that bad food memory makes us pay more attention to what we eat in the future.

Panhandlers are an inherent part of civilization, getting by on donations they cull from charitable folks with an outstretched hand and a plea for spare change.

It’s uncommon to see a panhandler that doesn’t use a sign to help garner donations nowadays, and those signs range from the stereotypical “need a buck for a beer” to the heartstring tugging “hungry homeless vet”.

But there’s one kind of panhandling sign that has proven far more effective than the rest- the funny sign.

Everybody appreciates a good laugh, and those funny signs often change the way people see panhandlers, helping them avoid becoming an invisible part of the city streets.

Ghanian reporter Anas Aremeyaw Anas has played a wide variety of roles during his career as a journalist, and his undercover mission to uncover the truth about African criminals is the stuff of legend.

However, this mission has also put a huge bounty on his head, so Anas can't show his face in public, a fact which forced him to wear a mask during a 2013 TED Talk where he spoke about some of the disguises he has worn while working undercover.

mental_floss has put together a revealing story about Ghana's greatest undercover reporter for an upcoming issue of their magazine, and they've shared nine of the disguises Anas has worn, with the story behind each bust, to tide us over until the issue comes out.

From homeless man to sheikh, peanut hawker to paper bag on the side of the road, Anas has played each role so convincingly it's a wonder CONTROL hasn't scooped him up yet!

Nips and Porkington are pigs in every sense of the word- they’re cops and one is actually a pig, so he's a pig in two ways. I'm not sure if he's also a slob, but if he is then that makes three ways in which Porkington is a pig.

Nips and Porkington are the stars of their own animated short called The Casebook Of Nips And Porkington, which was created by an extremely talented individual named Melody Wang.

Hopefully Melody will share some more animated animal adventures with us in the near future, but for now we'll have to make do with this enchanting short.

Disney’s animated features rely on paper thin plots to make the magic happen, and what they lack in believability they more than make up for in character appeal and emotional effect.

But a thin plot means the whole storyline can come crashing down with one minor change, like showing what led up to Bambi’s mother getting blasted.

When everything goes to hell in the Mushroom Kingdom the denizens of that colorful land will have to kart for survival, or fall to the flying shells.

Mad Max: Fury Road isn’t meant to be a particularly funny film, but add a few visual effects, a few characters and silly sound effects from Mario Kart 64 and you’ve got a wasteland full of laughs.

YouTube user sundbergkr doesn't rely on over-the-top gags or comically misspliced clips to deliver the comedy in Mario Kart: Fury Road, and the end result is a mashup that's simply funny!

Hockey is one of the roughest professional sports, and one of the only sports where players don’t have to tell people which sport they play when out of uniform- because their face does all the talking for them!

One face in particular has come to be known as the face of hockey, and that face belongs to Terry Sawchuk, frankengoalie.

Sawchuk started tending goal pre-1966, when players weren't required to wear masks or head protection of any kind. When safety rules were implemented in 1966 LIFE magazine hired a professional makeup artist to recreat many of the facial injuries Terry had sustained during his sixteen years in the game for this eye opening photo.

The other injuries they couldn't effectively recreate include:

"a slashed eyeball requiring three stitches, a 70% loss of function in his right arm because 60 bone chips were removed from his elbow, and a permanent “sway-back” caused by continual bent-over posture."
