High Speed Photos Of People Emerging From A Waterslide

There ain’t no cure for the summertime blues quite like taking a dip in the pool, and when the doggy paddling grows tiresome folks head to a good old fashioned water park for some water based thrills and spills.

Those who brave the waterslides normally don’t care much about commemorating their experience with a photo, but maybe they would if those souvenir shots looked like the delightful pics in Krista Long's series “I Love Summer”.

Each high speed shot depicts a slider emerging from the slide in their own unique way- some shoot out like old pros, while others flail their way back into the pool, looking like they barely escaped the slide with their lives.

It’s fun in the sun for your eyeballs!

The Birth Of The Alphabet

Before there is a font there are letters and an alphabet, but where do letters come from? According to artist Andreas Scheiger they go through an embryonic stage before they become part of the written word.

You may remember Andreas as the guy who created a gruesome series of typographic surgery sculptures, but this time his series "Evolution of Type" reveals how letters are created, instead of how they meet their end.

Andreas sculpts the letters out of polymer clay, colors and coats them with resin, then suspends each baby letter in a glass bowl filled with gel wax, to complete their signature fetal look.

There's A New Squid-Faced Cryptocurrency In Town

Cryptocurrency “brands” are trying their darndest to become as likeable as greenbacks, using characters like Doge that appeal to the target audience, and since the whole thing is bordering on becoming fantasy funny money anyway it’s rather appropriate to use fictional characters as the spokesthings.

The latest cryptocurrency incarnation bears the horrifying, squid-faced visage of the Great Old One Cthulhu, and this crypto currency is guaranteed to drive those foolish enough to accept it mad with greed!

Here’s some of the strange rhetoric Cthulhu Offerings is using to get people to join their monetary "ritual"-

As the equinox approaches we begin the ritual; four weeks and five days long it builds until Cthulhu awakens and one worshipper is rewarded greatly!
The time draws near, the return of The Great Old One is upon us. Join us in our ritual.

Will you join in this monetary ritual, or let your dead presidents, and your sanity, stay safe and sound right where they are?

How Superheroes Shave

Superheroes have to maintain their appearance, for the sake of public relations, so the guys gotta stay shaved unless a beard or moustache is part of their superheroic outfit/identity.

Some guys have built-in shavers, or keen-edged accessories, but for those who don’t have a convenient and cool looking implement handy shaving can become a real pain.

Take it from your friendly neighborhood webslinger and Brazilian comic artist Dragonarte- get yourself a proper Spider-Man brand shaving razor, because trying to wax your face with webbing is a horrible idea!

37 Things You Probably Didn't Know About San Diego

(Image Via Port of San Diego)

There’s a lot more to San Diego than Comic-Con, surfing and a world famous Zoo- S.D. is a town with a long military history, a rich cultural history that we share with Mexico, and plenty of Old West flavor around every corner.

San Diego has been called "the birthplace of California", and former mayor Pete Wilson once called it America’s Finest City, a title that has stuck around because San Diegans are proud of their beautiful city.

Whether you’re curious about the home of Comic-Con, thinking about taking a sunny beachside vacation, or want to know more about the city that made Ron Burgundy a top rated newsman you should read this highly informative article entitled 37 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About San Diego.

(Image Via Dan DeChiaro)

A few facts they left off the list- Dennis Hopper lived in San Diego as a teenager, attending Grossmont and Helix high school from 1950-54, and our very own mascot The San Diego Chicken made The Sporting News list of the Top 100 Most Powerful People in Sports of the 20th Century, alongside Muhammed Ali and Babe Ruth. Not bad for a giant chicken!

'Strange Wonderful' By Stephanie Swart

One of the great things about animation is that everyone has their own unique style, both in terms of character/background design and the movement found within their work, so you never know what you’re gonna get when you check out an indie animator’s keyframed creation.

However, this animated short by Stephanie Swart kinda gives you a hint about what to expect right there in the title- Strange Wonderful.

This surreal short is certainly strange, and very sketchy in places, but the understated storyline shows that embracing the strange can be a wonderful, albeit somewhat lonely, experience.

The Guide To Spoiler Etiquette

Navigating the internet without being exposed to spoilers can sometimes seem like an impossible mission, especially if you’re a passionate fan who genuinely hates to have your favorite media ruined for you by uncaring users/article writers.

So what actually constitutes a spoiler? Are some people being a bit too touchy about spoilers, or do they have a valid argument?

Screen Junkies host Hal Rudnick tackles this touchy subject with the help of actor Steve Byrne, journalist Devin Faraci, and Screen Junkies own Dan Murrell.

They discuss spoiler boundaries and try to put together a "spoiler bill of rights", tune in and see if you agree with their spoiler rules.

A Colorful Guide To The Worst Viruses In Computer History

Exploring the history of computer viruses tends to make readers a bit paranoid, especially if they’ve been struck by one of these malicious programs in the past.

But if you’re curious about the dark side of computing you can explore the ghosts of viruses past, complete with awesome graphic addition, at the Computer Virus Catalog, “an illustrated guide to the worst viruses in computer history”.

There you can read about the LSD virus, a DOS based virus that "overwrites all the files in the current directory and then displays a druggy video effect", or the Madman virus, a DOS virus that infects .exe files- "Whenever you hit CTRL-ALT-DEL the virus displays an ASCII picture of an angry red-faced amigo. Hit your keyboard again and the virus displays the creepy message: 'Nothing can save you here, friend - you're in my world now!'_"

For some this site will be informative, but for those who practically live on their computers (like I do) this information makes for a downright terrifying read! *shivers*

Angry Ram Attacks Motorcyclist Over And Over Again

Animals generally aren’t fond of those noisy vehicles we humans love to ride around, and when they’re not scared of the noisy device they’re steaming mad at its very presence:

(Video Link)

This angry animal reaction to motor vehicles was captured by New Zealander Marty Todd on his GoPro HD Hero3+ camera, as an angry ram that lives on his property attacks him repeatedly while he tries to ride his dirtbike.

The ram was clearly not impressed by Marty’s sweet bike, and seemed unfazed by the fact that the entire incident was filmed from both Marty and the ram's point of view, but I guess even rams have issues with road rage!

Six Ways Movies Are Wrong About Space

Space is still the final frontier for us earthbound human beings, and our fascination with what awaits humanity in the largely unexplored cosmos is still going strong.

Movies have brought this cosmic interest back time and time again, most recently with the film Gravity, proving that people still can’t get enough of movies set in space.

Chris Hadfield is an astronaut who knows a thing or two about outer space, and he’s sick and tired of watching movies that seem to get space wrong every time.

Chris says space will kill you in mundane ways, like when Luca Parmitano came close to drowning in space when his water supply leaked into his helmet, but going to the bathroom in space is awesome, which is something they never show in the movies, for obvious reasons.

He shared these factoids and more with Cracked in 6 Ways Movies Get Space Wrong, and (spoiler alert!) Hollywood movies are typically all wrong about space!

Ninja Versus Apocalypse, With Zombies

Ask some people who would win in the battle of ninja versus (insert noun here) and the ninja will always come out on top.

There’s something about those masked martial artists that makes them really popular despite their murderous inclinations, and they seem virtually invincible when you see them on the big screen:

(Video Link)

Well, they’re definitely destructible, as the video series Daily Ninja proves by throwing them out in front of oncoming traffic, or in the path of a shorebound ferry:

(Video Link)

The wacky video series was created to help promote the upcoming release of Ninja Apocalypse, a post apocalyptic flick directed by Lloyd Lee Barnett that has something to do with magic, ninjas and zombies, not necessarily in that order:

Star Trek With Camera Shake Removed - Turn Down For What Edition

The original Star Trek show was filmed when all effects were practical, as opposed to digitally created special effects, and adding camera shake meant literally shaking the camera.

Star Trek: The Next Generation was made in the late 80s/early 90s, when digital effects were more widely used in television productions, so effects like camera shake were digitally added in post-production, with a little help from the actors, of course:

(Video Link)

Nowadays digital effects make it easy to simulate camera shake via software, but when you use the same software to remove the camera shake effect you're left with nothing but amazing performances.

Add the catchy DJ Snake and Lil Jon track "Turn Down For What" to those performances and you've got pure comedy gold on your hands, courtesy of some dude named Danny Rogers and his mashup "Turn Down For Spock".

Thor Is About To Become A Disney Princess

The mighty God of Thunder has undergone some changes over the years, from new looks and new attitudes to that time Loki turned him into a frog, but now Thor’s about to go where many male characters in the Marvel Universe have gone before- full blown female.

It’s quite refreshing to see Thor in this light, and just like when Loki took over the body of Sif for a minute these guys don’t lose a bit of their mighty attitudes when exploring their feminine side.

The only problem with this transformation is spelled out in this tweet:

And you thought Mulan and Merida were tough!
