Twelve Mighty Facts About He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe

As a kid growing up in the 80s cartoon heroes didn't come much buffer, bolder, or more exciting than He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

He-Man was a toon descendant of the sword and sorcery fantasy subgenre that made Dungeons & Dragons obsessed kids like me go squee, and in a clever bit of marketing the characters on the screen matched toys available for purchase at your local toy store, sparking many lifelong addictions to toys and action figures.

He-Man isn't all muscles and might, and now thanks to io9's 12 Insane Facts About He-Man and the Masters of the Universe you can discover fun facts like- Skeletor's relationship to He-Man, the geek icons who started their career on Masters, and why Teela is more important than He-Man in the overall storyline.

Maisie Williams Watches Saved By The Bell For The First Time

Maisie Williams is quickly becoming a Game of Thrones cast favorite not only because of her amazing portrayal of Arya Stark on the show, but also because of her amazingly charming personality in real life.

She's a teenager having fun with her friends and her life, a young lady who just happens to be one of the stars of the biggest TV show in the land, but there's one thing missing from her life- exposure to television from the 80s and 90s.

Like many teenagers these days she hasn't been properly introduced to the magic of television that we grown folks grew up with, but thanks to the video series Teens React To... she can now spread the gospel of Saved By The Bell:

(Video Link)

The Fine Brothers invited guest star Maisie Williams, and ten other teens, to share their reactions to the show that taught us about diet pills, dating and the dangers of being too fashionable.

Watch as Maisie struggles to contain her embarrassment during the theme song, and declares her allegiance to Team Zack, just in time for the 25th anniversary of The Bell!

YMCA Video Without Music = Comedy Gold

Those flamboyant guys from the hit disco group The Village People are natural stage performers, with an energy and presence that is undeniable, and yet it's hard to imagine people paying to see them perform without musical accompaniment:

(Video Link)

Whether you're a fan, or can't stand the sound these occupational advocates created with their noiseholes, this musicless video by Mario Wienerroither will make you want to get up and dance with uncomfortable awkwardness!

Or maybe it will help inspire you to find a new career- there's a huge demand for cowboys these days, and people are always looking to hire leather clad biker bad boys, or so I've been told...

Statue Selfies Are Bringing Online Vanity To The Fine Art World

Everybody else seems to be obsessed with taking pictures of themselves with their smartphones wherever they go, so why wouldn't those handsome statues we see in museums and art galleries want to do the same?

They were long considered visual examples of physical perfection, and people have been ooing and aahing about how lifelike they look for centuries, so Redditor Jazus_ur_lookin_well decided it was time for these marble hunks and beauties to join this self-obsessed scene.

He came up with the idea while visiting the Crawford art gallery in Cork, Ireland, as he realized these handsomely sculpted men were just dying to share their good looks with the world, so with a clever positioning of the camera the statue selfie was born!

Reverse Graffiti Artists Are Cleaning Up The City In Style

(Image Via Cool Material)

People who complain that graffiti is making their city filthier will probably appreciate these works of reverse graffiti- street art created by creatively cleaning dirt from cityscape surfaces.

(Image Via Imgur)

Reverse graffiti artists don't use paint, or other destructive materials, to create their clever artworks- they simply scrub away at the grime built up on surfaces to form all kinds of shapes, from characters to abstract designs:

Here's an example of how a piece of reverse graffiti might begin:

And here's the final result, all cute and clean on the sidewalk without any of that messy paint ruining the concrete:

Perhaps reverse graffiti artists will change the way some people think about street art, but at very least their works will result in cleaner walls and sidewalks around town!

The Amazing Things You Might Find Outside

The outdoors can be a pretty wonderful place to visit, and they look even better in real life than they do on the various screens around your house, but if you’re still skeptical you should consult this wonderfully illustrated chart by naturalist Rosemary Mosco of bird and moon.

If avian dinosaurs kissing, underfoot safaris and tiny rock forests aren't enough to get you outside then maybe you should consider binge-watching various nature channels until your love of the natural world is restored.

Or maybe you just need a few more houseplants and a bird...

Meet Ralf And Florian - The Improbable Kraftwerk Sitcom

The guys from Kraftwerk might not seem like sitcom stars in the making, they’re quirky but they don't emote enough to make it in the TV comedy biz, but this "newly discovered footage" from a Kraftwerkian sitcom called Ralf and Florian shows how bizarre their show could have been.

You need only listen to songs like Showroom Dummies and The Model to know these guys enjoy tongue-in-cheek humor, but this pilot supposedly "discovered" by YouTuber Braces Tower in "a car boot sale in Dusseldorf" makes laughter feel uncomfortable:

(Video Link)

Sprockets didn't kickstart a German avant garde sitcom revolution, so this "show" never had a chance to air alongside early 80s shows like Diff'rent Strokes and Silver Spoons, but Braces Tower's imaginative edit will make you want to pull out your Kraftwerk records and have an old school pop-lock dance party!

The Apparently Kid Gets Songified

The Apparently Kid, aka Noah Ritter, recently took the net by storm when he stole the show during a news interview by rambling away in the cutest way possible, making sure to use his favorite word apparently as much as possible.

(Video Link)

Noah is cute, he uses big words, and now he’s been songified thanks to the efforts of The Gregory Brothers, the masterminds behind the classic songified hits Double Rainbow and Bed Intruder.

I would not be surprised if this song becomes the biggest hit of the summer, because it's mighty catchy!

Musician Visits Every State Park In Oregon For A Beautiful Music Video

Musician Slater Smith came up with a rather cool way to spend the summer of 2013- he visited every single one of the 185 state parks in Oregon, filmed the entire trip, then turn his visits into a music video.

(Video Link)

Slater's song is appropriately folksy and fits right in with the beautiful scenery that surrounds him in each shot, and the residents of Oregon were all too happy to ham it up for Slater's GoPro camera as he played his heartfelt song "Back O'er Oregon".

Man Sees Snake Eating Hawk And Comes To The Rescue

Hawks are tough birds, with razor sharp talons and beaks that tear through flesh with ease, but even these apex predators can have the tables turned on them by their prey- if that prey happens to be a four-foot-long bull snake.

(Video Link)

Scott Adams happened upon a rare example of prey besting predator playing out in the middle of the road, and for some reason he felt inclined to get involved.

Scott demonstrates his snake wrangling skills in the video, and nearly gets nailed by the disgruntled snake despite his skills, which is why no one should ever attempt a rescue like this unless trained to handle snakes.

Creepy Portraits Of People Covered In Junk Food

Photographer James Ostrer has taken the idiom you are what you eat far too literally in this deliciously creepy photo series full of portraits of people covered in sugary sweets and junk food:

The images may be terrifying to those who are on a diet, and might make people with a serious sweet tooth consider cannibalism for the first time, but they also bring to light another issue facing people today- the torture of innocent models.

Imagine being one of the unlucky models posing for this series, having to endure hours of food slathering, and the inevitable acne to follow, only to have your true identity obscured by food.

And the worst part of all is the fact that models can't even eat junk food, talk about your tasty torture!

Giant Turtle Sculpture Made Out Of Scrap Metal

If a tinkerer from the Industrial Age started making automatons shaped like animals for their ultra modern robot zoo they might have built a giant turtle sculpture similar to this epic scrap metal creation by Indonesian artist Ono Gaf.

(Images Via Gina Sanderson)

However, it would have been utterly lacking in the style and soul put into the work by Ono, the animal spirit that makes Gaf’s massive sculpture seem so lively.

Ono Gaf is a nickname used by Indonesian artist Sumarsono, and if you think his turtle sculpture is interesting wait until you read about the guy behind the art, the Malang man of steel.

The Colorful History Of Baseball Uniforms

The peanuts and cracker jacks are back in their seats, watching the new baseball season play out inning by inning like every previous season, but there’s one thing that regularly changes in the world of major league baseball- the uniforms.

Teams are constantly updating their look, changing up their color palette and refining their logo to stay current, and the history of baseball is forever commemorated by the uniforms of the past.

This colorful chart was created by Pop Chart Lab, containing colorful illustrations of baseball uniforms both home and away from the sport’s past, with examples dating back to the late 1800s, and you can see a full sized version of the chart here

What You Can Learn From Watching Investigation Discovery For 24 Hours

Watching true crime TV shows can teach you a thing or two about psychological profiling, forensic science and the horrific things people do to each other, but watch too much murder themed TV and you’re liable to become a bit paranoid.

Redditor fonetik conducted his own investigation into the effects of watching nothing but Investigation Discovery and other cop/murder shows for 24 hours and came up with over forty insightful, and sometimes frightening, "nuggets of information" including:

8. If you believe FBI profilers, I know about 30 serial killers.

3. If you took out an insurance policy on someone, and then they suddenly die horrifically a week later, you probably won’t get that money… and you’re going to prison.

15. My cell phone can take 6 hours of 720P video. The cameras in convenience stores take 4 pictures a minute and might as well be drawn with crayons. And they throw away the tapes nightly.

34. No one in nice neighborhoods hears or reports gunshots. Ever.

10. Detroit isn’t scary. Memphis is scary.

You can read the rest of fonetik's discovery nuggets here
