Skateboard Deck Ceiling Fan

Here's a fun idea in home improvement that would actually make a pretty cool DIY project for the skateboard obsessed in your life.

The folks at Notcot's Experimental Studio came up with this great idea- with just a few drilled holes, and maybe a coat of paint, your fan can McTwist the day away on skateboard blades and still provide a good breeze.

Abandoned Section Of Detroit May Become Zombie Theme Park

Parts of Detroit already seem like a scary place to visit, but add a zombie theme park and you've got a nightmare in the making.

Entrepreneur Mark Siwak feels that a zombie themed adventure might be just the thing to revitalize abandoned sections of Detroit, but to me it just sounds like a bad idea leading up to one hell of a lawsuit.

And what's up with the childlike scribbles they're calling concept art? I guess Mark's kids are helping out with the development phase of Z-World Detroit.

Animated Ode To YouTube Commenters

(YouTube Link)

This goofy animated short captures the statements made by archetypal YouTube commenters, and the state of their lives, rather perfectly.

Meet the colorful cast of characters who make the comments you love to hate as you wait for your video to load.

The only problem with this video - these guys are tame compared to the real thing!

(Barely NSFW due to one word)

Bizarre Nylon Sculptures By Rosa Verloop

These bizarre nylon sculptures are created by using a fairly simple technique which has some rather spectacular results.

Artist Rosa Verloop uses regular old stockings and turns them into bizarre caricatures by squishing, molding, shaping and straight pinning the nylons into place.

I want to yell at the work pictured above so it'll stop LOOKING AT ME like that! *shakes fist*

Surreal Short Film - Sarah

(Vimeo Link)

This dark little mini flick seems like an ad for a short film rather than a film in its own right.

That being said, Sarah is moody, compelling and combines audio and video to maximum effect.

And if you can't spare a minute of your life to watch a weird short film then stop being so busy all the time!

The Cat Who Hates On The Spot News Reports

(YouTube Link)

Be forewarned-Try and film an on location piece in this angry kitty's territory and he will take down your silly little news program, one reporter at a time.

This reporter is lucky that she caught him on a good day, or else he would have shredded her blouse to smithereens on live television.

Perhaps he went easy on her because she's a cat lover? She certainly doesn't seem fazed by the fact that a sinister cat has interrupted her precious news broadcast.

Or maybe that's what she was planning all along....*cue suspenseful music*

FLIP, The Ocean Vessel That Can Stay Afloat Vertically

This is FLIP, an ocean vessel that can actually flip on its side and keep on a-floatin'.  FLIP even has two sets of interior furnishings for long term floating in either position.

The Floating Instrument Platform is celebrating 50 years of staying afloat no matter what the high seas throws at it.

Hit the Laughing Squid link below if you're interested in reading more about this amazing vehicle and FLIP ON!

Warped Sculptures Of Characters From Wonderland

These wicked cool sculptures were created by multimedia artist Mark James Porter, a guy who has clearly spent some time with his head in the clouds above Wonderland.

His Cheshire Cat, complete with realistic teeth, looks great alongside a White Rabbit with a clock body, a cracked up version of Humpty Dumpty and a figure called the "Dance Of The Hanged Men".

These are truly kooky works of sculptural art, and I love each and every one of 'em!

Try Not To Lose Your Mind While Watching This Slit-Scan Video

(YouTube Link)

Slit-scan is a form of video processing that results in some rather mind blowing effects. Here's how it's done:
1. record a video of your action
2. extract each frame as an individual image (the opposite to what you would do for a time lapse)
3. extract a vertical single pixel wide line from each image (for example a line from the center)
4. stack those lines horizontally from left to right to form an actual "slit scan" image

Sounds easier than sitting through an entire slit-scan video!

And I know that this video is about a year old, but if you haven't seen it before it's new to you!

Kansas City Parking Garage Transformed Into Giant Bookshelf

Here's a fun way to make a parking garage look like less of an eyesore-paint it over to look like a giant bookshelf, housing classic novels such as The Invisible Man, The Lord Of The Rings and....Silent Springs? How did that one get in there?

Oh I see, the townsfolk of Kansas City voted on which classic works of literature would appear on the parking garage wall.

I guess KC is lucky that a giant copy of 50 Shades Of Gray didn't end up on the shelf!

How To Create A Fire Tornado In Your Own Backyard

(YouTube Link)

This video demonstrates a rather simple way to create a fire tornado right in your own backyard, so please keep your drunken friends from getting their hands on this video.

Fire tornado is so pretty, so deadly, so.....flamey! It's the next best thing to having the natural version sweep through your yard and singe off your eyebrows!

Cardboard Children's Furniture

Japanese company Tsuchinoco produces whimsical children's furniture made out of corrugated cardboard panels, perfect for the playroom of a kid who's a bit rough on the furniture.

Their furniture kind of looks like a three day weekend DIY project, or something that belongs on the shelves at IKEA, but the fun shapes and rough edged style make these pieces simply delightful.

Art Reproductions Made Using Torn Up Magazines

These reproductions of famous paintings take collage art to a whole new level of cool, and demonstrate a good use for all the magazines piling up in the corner of the living room.

They were created by Vik Muniz, a Brooklyn based artist whose passion is hacking up the printed page with scissors and gluing the bits together to make pretty pictures, reconstructing disposable magazines into something timeless.

It's a beautiful mess, with minute details only visible in the image blow up, details which show the meticulous care that went into each piece.

Animated Tribute To The Ninja Turtles

(Vimeo Link)

Animator Malcolm Sutherland pays tribute to the heroes in a half shell by letting them show you some of their sweet ninja moves, but they look like they're feeling a bit under the weather so don't stare too hard.

I would love it if they made a reboot of the Ninja Turtles TV series drawn in this style!

Video Game Themed LEGO Pixel Art By Meufer

There is something so right about pixel art being brought to life with LEGO bricks. Maybe it's the pleasant bumpiness of the bricks, or the bold colors that make the works really pop.

LEGO artist Meufer creates some bricktastic renditions of classic pixelated video game characters, and whether you see them as pieces for your wall or inspiration for your own diy project Meufer's LEGO works are undeniably cool.
