The Memes That Defined 2017

(Image Link)

Every new year brings with it a new batch of internet memes to make us laugh and give us fresh new material to share on social media, which means it's almost time to say goodbye to the memes of 2017.

(Image Link)

2017 gave us the Cash Me Ousside meme which made us tough to love, the Distracted Boyfriend who came to represent far more than just a BF with a wandering eye, and the Mocking SpongeBob meme for when we were feeling snarky.

But my pick for best meme of 2017 is Cuca the Alligator, who was the villain in a Brazilian kids show from the early 2000s and took the internet by storm in the summer of 2017.

Cuca's flamboyantly funky style and her sassy attitude made her the perfect subject for meme-ification, and like the Babadook she became a gay social media icon almost overnight.

Pessimistic Comic Strips About Coco The Jolly Dog

Dogs generally have a happy-go-lucky attitude about life, and pet owners often find themselves inspired and gladdened by their dog's never-ending supply of pep.

This indomitable canine spirit is what makes people happy to meet a new dog, but when people meet Coco the Jolly Dog his nihilistic attitude makes them question the point of their existence.

Coco was created by Norwegian animator Ozan Drøsdal, who uses Coco as a way to purge the negativity from his life, and couldn't we all use a dark and moody friend like Coco?

Only The Coolest People Posed For Pics In A Wicker Peacock Chair

Wicker furniture was far more common in the 70s and 80s, and even though it's (temporarily) out of style, there was one particular model of wicker chair that will always look cool- the Philippine or Manila style, aka the wicker peacock chair.

The high-crested back, regal arm rests and eye-pleasingly round shapes throughout made those who sat in a peacock chair seem way cooler than they actually were. And if they were already cool as a corpse like Morticia Addams, the chair made them look like the coolest person on the planet.

While other wicker furniture has gone out of style and come back in over and over again the wicker peacock chair always stays "on trend", because it makes anyone who sits in it look amazing, even if they don't need any help in that department.

Sesame Street Puppeteers Explain How They Control Their Puppets

There are as many ways to operate a puppet as there are types of puppets, actually even more considering some puppet-makers build each puppet with its own unique method of operation.

But most standard rod, sock and human arm puppets are made to be operated pretty much the same way, with straps built in to the mouth plates to hold the fingers in while moving the mouth and a small mechanism used to move the eyes and/or eyelids.

And as you'll see in this WIRED video featuring puppeteers from Sesame Street, operating the seemingly simplistic puppets like Abby Cadabby can be rather difficult, while large puppets like Snuffleupagus are easier to control than you'd think.

Louis Vuitton Bags Upcycled Into Star Wars Sculptures

There are far fewer Louis Vuitton collectors on the planet than there are Star Wars fans, so when it comes to putting old Louie Vee to work artist and craftsman Gabriel Dishaw decided the bags had to die so that geeky art may live.

So Gabriel expertly deconstructed a bunch of Louis Vuitton bags, turning them into amazing sculptures of helmets and AT-ATs and droids that look like a million bucks.

Gabriel is known for his ability to turn a pile of scrap into a stunning, and typically Star Wars themed, work of art, but his new foray into fashion sculptures may forever change the way people think about luggage.

You Must Be A Wizard Of Puzzles To Discover The Secrets Hidden In This Harry Potter-Themed Table

Puzzle boxes are a cool way to securely stash stuff, and they're fun to try and figure out since no two are alike, but a box has only a few functions while a table has many.

Which is why this Harry Potter-themed puzzle coffee table created by David Lundell is so magical- it can just sit there holding up your drinks and serving one of its function as a flat surface whenever Muggles are around.

But then a puzzle wizard can grab the accompanying wand and make the table come to life, revealing its many hidden compartments and fun added features, plus it looks like it would fit right in at Hogwarts!

Sweet Photos That Capture Christmas At St. Joseph Orphanage In The 1960s

Many Christmas-themed stories remind us to think of the orphans and the poor during the holidays, and even though this message is less present in modern Christmas stories the orphans are still out there hoping for a Merry Christmas.

So to remind everyone that this is supposed to be the season for giving let's take a look at some vintage photos shared by stjoekid which were taken at the St. Joseph Orphanage in Louisville, Kentucky some time during the 60s.

Now the orphans of today may not dress like these kids did, and most orphans today probably want electronic devices and toys where as these kids are happy just to get a dolly, a pair of shoes or a plush toy.

But just look at how happy these kids are to get anything at all and tell me you don't want to rush out right now and donate to your local orphanage.

That's the spirit of giving you feel welling up inside you, but you don't have to wait until next Christmas to make a difference in an orphan's life- donate to charities like SOS Children's Villages and show orphans you care all day, every day. Merry Christmas Neatoramanauts!

'Carol Of The Bells' Played On An Ugly Christmas Sweater

Ugly Christmas sweaters usually don't offend more than the eyes, that is, unless the sweater hasn't been washed in a while then it will offend both the eyes and the nose.

But adding musical elements like bells to an ugly Christmas sweater seems like it would take the tackiness too far and turn the sweater into a weapon, since it could potentially offend three of the five sense at once.

However, after seeing this video Gerry Litwin uploaded to YouTube showing his coworker playing Carol Of The Bells I'm convinced musical ugly sweaters could be used for good after all!

The Grinchshank Redemption - Get Busy Giving, Or Get Busy Crying...

The Grinchshank Redemption by IdeasConPatatas

The people of Whoville had finally seen through the Grinch's false reformation and realized he was just biding his time until he could pull off an even bigger heist- so they decided to lock him up for good. But the town jail had bars made out of candy canes and the Florps of Florpville refused to accept a prisoner exchange when it involved a creature as foul and devilish as the Grinch. So the Whos looked to little Cindy Lou for a clue about what to do with that Grinch, and she said "It's a cinch, lock the old buzzard up in a snowglobe and he'll never escape!". They though her plan was great only they didn't calculate in the fact that, being Whos, they naturally acted in a manner way too nice. So against advice the mayor gave the Grinch a Christmas tree for his snowglobe cell to be nice, and the Grinch thanked him warmly while his veins continued pumping pure ice...

A Manly Version Of The Leg Lamp From A Christmas Story

Ralphie's dad seemed to really enjoy the Leg Lamp he received in A Christmas Story, in part because it was the sexiest appliance in town. But do you know what's even sexier than a mannequin leg wearing a fishnet stocking and a high heel?

The warm, rich lustre of natural wood, and had the "major award" Ralphie's dad received been made of wood, like this updated version created by Jackman Works, mom probably would have liked it too!

Jackman Works created a full scale model of his own leg out of maple butcher block scraps as the base, welded rebar together to make the lamp shade, and gave it a boot instead of a high heel to finish off his manly Leg Lamp reboot.

Weird Letters To Santa From Rural Kids In The 1920s

Kids who always get what they want for Christmas tend to stop caring about Santa at an early age, and they often find out their parents are actually the ones giving them gifts and don't really care as long as they get what they want.

But poor kids who aren't sure whether they're going to get any presents at all on Christmas morning want to believe in Santa- because he represents hope.

And when you're so poor you long for a square meal Santa seems like the only guy you can turn to for a Christmas miracle.

However, the rural kids who wrote these letters to Santa published in South Carolina's Abbeville Press and Banner back in 1922 still believe in Santa but want nothing to do with his magical BS, because they're too tough to consort with a jolly old elf like him.
