Geekapella Presents - Robocop Theme 1987

(Video Link)

What’s the one thing that was missing from both the original and the remake version of Robocop? Some will say wizards, others will say aliens, but a select few will claim that what both movies were sorely lacking is some good ol' fashioned a capella style singing.

They are the Andy Bernards of the world, the Burton Gusters, the Carlton Banks’s’s, and they are the target audience for Max and Sam’s Geekapella version of the Robocop Theme (1987).

The date’s there to remind you that this song is dedicated to the original movie, and the dancing in the video- well, that’s just there to remind everyone that Max and Sam really know how to get down!

Fifteen Fascinating Facts About Metal Gear Solid

The mysterious man known as Solid Snake has gone from a straight forward Special Ops type dude to the star of a video game franchise that keeps getting more surreal with each installment.

His name, and later his eyepatch, may have been lifted from Kurt Russell’s character in Escape From New York, but did you know that he’s supposed to have the body of Jean Claude Van Damme and the face of Christopher Walken?

This strange fact and many more await your eyeballs as Gamma Squad presents 15 Fascinating Facts You May Not Know About Metal Gear Solid, so you can get up to speed just in time for the release of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.

Animal Sculptures Made Out Of Plastic Beach Litter

Cleaning up the beach can be fun- if you’re planning to make an awesome sculpture out of the litter when you’re done! These colorful animal sculptures were created by French artist Gilles Cenazandotti, and each one is made from plastic litter and odd bits of trash the artist “recycled” from beaches.

He calls the series Future Bestiary, and the animals which star in the series don’t look trashy at all, in fact it’s crazy how much detail and expression Gilles is able to capture in a well put together pile of waste.

These sculptures are a great example of what can be done with a bunch of junk, a bit of creativity and a ton of glue, but it’s sad how much plastic trash he was able to find on his local beaches.

Papercraft Light Boxes Full Of Fairy Tale Magic

(Video Link)

Papercraft artists Deepti Nair and Harikrishnan Panicker, who call themselves Hari & Deepti for short, have taken the fairy tale from the written word to papercraft images that tell a story full of mystery and excitement.

Their multi-layered designs are created using sheets of stiff watercolor paper, which they cut and arrange in layers to give the viewer a sense of depth, then they complete the fantasy effect by shining a light through the back, giving their pieces a wonderfully warm glow rarely seen in papercraft art works.

The included video shows the making of a piece called Rise and Skate, which was created for AIGA Colorado's Bordo Bello skateboard art show.

Happy Gilmore As An 8-Bit Video Game

(Video Link)

He went from the ice to the eighteenth hole, punched Bob Barker square in the face and saw what the old guy was truly made of, and brought the hockey fans to the putting green much to the dismay of the country club crowd. He’s Happy Gilmore, and he really should have been the star of his own 8-bit video game!

The game would've had so many diverse gameplay elements- with a hockey playing segment, a golf segment, and plenty of butt kicking on every level, with plenty of yelling at the screen for good measure.

Too bad we’ll just have to settle for this 8-Bit Cinema animated short created by CineFix, which is great fun to watch but only makes me want to play a Happy Gilmore game even more!

The Bizarre Religious Mini Comics By Jack T. Chick

(Video Link)

Anyone who has come across one of Jack T. Chick’s little religious comics knows they’re full of strange messages, weird art that looks like it belongs in underground comix from the 60s and 70s, and a heavy handed delivery that often relies on shock to convince the reader they should pray for their sins.

Ironically, there is even an issue dedicated to the evil of reading comic books, which seems to fit right in with the rest of Jack's ridiculous messages that often make no sense.

Jack started creating his Chick tracts back in 1961, and since then over 200 volumes have found their way into the hands of believers, collectors and curious comic book fans who, more often than not, trip out on those odd little comic books created by Chick Publications.

You can read more about Jack Chick's strange little comics over at Dangerous Minds.

These Jerboas Look Like Real Life Pokemon

Jerboas are technically desert dwelling rodents who live primarily in Northern Africa and Asia, but let's face it- they might actually be the cutest animals in existence.

But what else is there to a jerboa besides their ultimate cute factor, and the fact that they look like real life Pokemon?

Head over to BuzzFeed and you can read 19 Ways Jerboas Will Instantly Win Your Heart, and don't be surprised if you find yourself suddenly wanting a little jerboa of your own!

Turn An Ordinary Mug Into A Musical Instrument

(Video Link)

Are your fingers always drumming away on anything within reach, keeping the beat of your life that only you can hear? Maybe you need to incorporate more instrumentation into your life, which would be very easy if everything you touched could be used as a musical instrument.

Here's a nifty little musical hack that turns a mug full of water into a musical instrument. It's called Mug Music, and it was created by Princeton student Bonnie E using the Arduino platform in conjunction with Touche, a touch sensor system created by Disney. Mug Music is MIDI compatible, so there's no limit to the amount of racket you can create with your favorite beverage!

If you'd like to try your hand at creating some Mug Magic of your own you can find the tutorial here.

Punch Out Your Own Design On This DIY Lamp Shade

DIY home décor is all the rage these days, but starting from scratch often involves doing lots of research, maybe creating some sketches, and getting all the right tools together for the project.

That’s what makes this Take-off light shade by German design company fifti-fifti so neat- you don’t need tools to bring it to life, it comes pre-perforated so you can simply poke out the panels and create your own pixel art lamp shade creation.

This shade is a bit pricey, and doesn't come with a socket or cord, but the end result is something you created on your own, and if you have the patience to take on this project you'll end up with a beautiful, and totally unique, piece of home decor.

What Batman Villains Would Look Like As Sharks

Gotham City’s rogues' gallery reads like an urban jungle almanac, with cats, big apes everywhere, a killer croc, a man sized bat and the very plants themselves wreaking havoc thanks to a sinister gal named Poison Ivy.

There was even a guy named Great White Shark, who was called that because of his physical disfigurement and filed teeth, not because he was actually a shark.

But these illustrated re-imaginings by Jeff Victor show what the Arkham Asylum crowd would look like as cartoon sharks, perhaps in an alternate version of Batman that takes place underwater or the sequel to Finding Nemo that nobody saw coming.

Funny, I always pictured The Penguin as, well, a penguin!

Intricate 3D Printed Artworks By Joshua Harker

The future of art lies in the third dimension, so it makes sense that 3D printers are going from simple replicators to tools for creating original works of art.

Joshua Harker is leading the way into the 3D printed age of art with his amazing sculptures, with designs that push the boundaries of what a 3D printer is capable of producing, and his works keep getting more intricate, more delicate and infinitely more difficult to print.

From the otherworldly headdress we featured here on Neatorama a while back, to fun art pieces covered in scrollwork and fanciful designs, to a bunch of intricately designed flowers that look as delicate as the real thing, Joshua’s works will make you believe in the artistic power of the 3D printer.

The Strange Appeal Of Cats Sitting On Glass

(Video Link)

There’s something so darn interesting about looking at a cat through a pane of glass, and cats seem to find it rather fun and interesting as well.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell there’s a cat on the other side of the glass when they look like nothing but a big old pile of fluff, and when they get on top of a piece of glass with a human, or another critter, on the other side they tend to go a bit bonkers.

This video is called An Ode to Cats Sitting on Glass, and it celebrates the fun had by felines when they discover that compelling piece of glass, and all the ways it can be used for their amusement.

Animated Short Sponsored By Absolut Vodka - Dark Noir

(Video Link)

Dark Noir is an incredibly stylish animated short by Rafael Grampa that combines 2D and CGI elements into one surprisingly interesting storyline about personal daemons and the stories we all carry around within our minds.

It was created for Absolut Vodka's ad campaign Next Frame, and even though it carries a warning that it should only be viewed by those of legal drinking age the story seems to lack overly adult content, aside from the main character spending a lot of time in a bar.

Here's more about this decidedly artistic ad campaign:

Entitled Next Frame, the collaboration will invite users from around the world to help shape what happens within a new original story created by Grampa – as he writes it. Once the story is complete, the brand will work with Grampa to transform the still drawings into an animated film, which will premiere in Berlin at MADE, a creative space by Absolut, on March 15th.

This 4-Year-Old's Best Friend Is A Bulldog

4-year-old Harper doesn't know that she's an only child, because in her mind she's got a sister named Lola- who just happens to be a bulldog.

The two are inseparable-playing dress up together, having tea parties and even hanging out on the bed reading a book, hanging out like sisters and friends rather than pet and owner.

Their amazing, and ridiculously adorable, relationship is documented by their mother, photographer Rebecca Leimbach, who has been sharing photos of the cutest siblings ever via her Facebook page.

Rebecca says it all started as an accident:

Harper came out of her playroom one day and said 'Ta-da!' I turned around and Lola was wearing a tutu, necklaces and a crown, and she didn't seem to mind. I died laughing and grabbed my camera to take a picture... the rest is history.
