The Ultimate Cosplay Hero - Captain Patch-It

A new hero has emerged on the swag littered floor of fandom conventions, a selfless superstar who brings much needed supplies to cosplayers weary from a day of posing for pictures and pushing through crowds.

He is Captain Patch-It, and his superpower is being prepared for almost any cosplay emergency, armed with everything a cosplayer in peril might need- glue gun, safety pins, thread and needles, all kinds of tape including duct and electrical, scissors, hair pins and a helping hand.

Captain Patch-It made his first appearance at Supanova Melbourne, and he’s hoping to inspire convention goers to form their own chapter of the International Cosplay Corps, so they can help other cosplayers in need at conventions across the globe.

Who Killed Piggy Palmer? - Muppets Dressed As Twin Peaks Characters

There have been all kinds of strange examples of Muppets mashup art making their way onto the interwebs, from the kinda freaky look of Muppet zombies to the extremely terrifying Muppets as real people, but the latest mashup making the rounds is disturbing both visually and mentally- The Muppets as Twin Peaks characters by illustrator Justin DeVine

Miss Piggy is cold, lifeless and wrapped in plastic, Gonzo is doing his weirdo dance in the Red Room, and Kermit Cooper is too hopped up on coffee to find Piggy’s killer, truly the darkest days ever experienced by the puppet troupe.

David Lynch productions are already pretty strange, but think about how strange Twin Peaks would have been if it had starred the Muppets!

Comedians On Psychedelic Drugs

(Video Link)

The mind of a comedian works in very strange ways, and it takes a perfect level of functional insanity to stand up in front of a bunch of strangers and tell jokes. It’s a tough gig, and those who are able to make money at it know that they’re getting paid for the crazy things floating around in their heads.

So it should come as no surprise that many comedians have tried psychedelic drugs, getting their head on, so to speak, and really digging deep into the vaults to pull out good material.

Psychedelics are still a hotly debated subject in the world of drugs, but take it from comedians like George Carlin and Bill Hicks- psychedelics make you think of comedy in a whole new light!

Guy Poses For Selfie Too Close To Tracks, Conductor Kicks Him In The Head

(Video Link)

Selfie addicts should take note of this cautionary video when posing for pics near large moving vehicles, realizing that if you only get kicked in the head you got off easy.

The careless poser in this video had the bright idea to snap a selfie really close to the tracks as a train was about to go by, but the conductor spotted him standing too close to the tracks and took it upon himself to act like a human cow catcher-by kicking the guy in the head.

Some are speculating that the video is a fake, because why would you be shooting a video if you were posing for a selfie? Either way a smug selfie lover gets kicked in the head, yay trains!

Nerd Culture Stereotypes Are Way Older Than You Think

(Image Via Cosplayer SK)

There’s a popular misconception that nerd culture began in the 1970s with the rise of fandom conventions, adult comic book collectors and science fiction productions reaching a broader audience than ever before, but nerd culture as we know it today actually began around the turn of the 20th century.

Cosplayers are all the rage at the moment, but August Olson, the person often considered to be the first cosplayer, dressed up like a comic strip alien called Skygack to attend a masked ball in Monroe, Washington all the way back in 1912, so it appears cosplay is nothing new.

Neither is using pop culture characters for advertising, or media piracy for that matter, as you will find out when you read Cracked’s article about 6 Nerd Culture Stereotypes That Are Way Older Than You Think.

Gangs Story - The Photographs Of Yan Morvan

Outlaw motorcycle clubs have been riding free and freaking out the norms since World War II, when a bunch of servicemen back from the war decided to take a ride on the dark side of life.

French photographer Yan Morvan has always been fascinated by bikers, and gang members in general, so it’s no surprise that he made these free-wheeling folks the focus of his photographic vision, documenting biker gangs from all over for a book called Gangs Story, which was actually banned by French court.

Yan is a bit of a badass, with a rebellious streak in him as wide as the open road, and a few years ago he gave VICE a fascinating, and eyebrow raising, interview about his exploits which you can read here.

The Magical Miniature World Of Snails

Snails are generally seen as garden pests, crunchy sidewalk debris and potential escargot, but if we could see the world from a snail's point of view we would discover a miniature world full of natural wonder, beautiful color and life that moves at a snail's pace.

Photographer Vyacheslav Mishchenko went way down low to capture the amazing miniature world of the snail, and his photo series reveals the magical world snails live in, a tiny world which can only be properly viewed with the help of a macro lens.

The Trio Fantastique consisted of Wink on guitar, Blink on drums, and Nod who rocked the saxophone, and they were the house band for Antwerp’s Robot Club, also making appearances in various fairs and departments stores around France between 1954 and 1959.

They were made of shiny metal, they played songs via piano roll technology, and they could Bebop with the best of 'em because they actually played their instruments! (Here's a short clip of these marvels of retro technology gettin' their groove on.)

Photos Of Famous Landmarks Tell A Different Story When Zoomed Out

Have you ever noticed that famous landmarks always seem to look good in photographs?

You’d think the Taj Mahal was in the middle of a fantasy kingdom when you see it in photos, but zoom out a bit and show the surrounding area and you’ll discover that the Taj Mahal is sitting right next to a barren landscape littered with trash.

Zoom out on the pyramids at Giza and you’ve got a bustling metropolis all around, zoom out on Niagara Falls and it looks like part of a Las Vegas water park, but crop out the parts you don't want to see and those famous landmark photos will always look good! See more at PolicyMic.
