The East Coast is still recovering from a less-than-devastating earthquake that shook walls, knocked stuff over on desks and generally didn't do a whole lot of damage. The folks over at BuzzFeed have gathered together a gallery of images that shows just how simple it will be for the folks on the East Coast to recover from the kind of tremor that Californians feel on a weekly basis. Damage caused by an earthquake has never been so hilarious!
Have you ever wanted a record of all you see while peering into your binoculars, whether bird, ballgame or a neighbor's illicit activities? Maybe not, but even if you don't care to record it all, you have to admit these binoculars are really cool! Built by Sony, the DEV-3 and DEV-5 are the binoculars of the future. With built in HD and 3D recorder, they are capable of doing everything you could ever want a pair of binoculars to do, except of course for x-ray vision. They can even shoot still pics at 7 megapixels, prompting the question: what would you do if you got your hands on a pair of these bad boys?
Spiderman hasn't come to save the day, he'd rather go around annoying people while capturing all the fun on video camera. In Poland, Spiderman hits the streets and harasses the people he once saved, using his arsenal of silly string and lasso to really tick them off. You'd think this wannabe superhero would be in better shape, considering how often he has to run from the cops!
If life decisions came with multiple choices, displayed via HUD and featuring options running the gamut of morality, we would probably still make terrible decisions. But hey, at least we'd know what our options were, and how effective our speech skill has become. While you're at YouTube, check out Broken Pixel's other silly comedy videos, and see what your favorite games would look like if they became all too real.
Obi Wan battling the Empire via breakdancing. The classic Nintendo crowd get together for a snapshot. Mulder and Scully expose alien life forms both humanoid and puppet. Sound like strange subject matter for paintings? Then you haven't seen the colorful works of Aaron Jasinski, a painter who's bringing the pop culture back to lowbrow art. ComicsAlliance has a cool gallery of Aaron's colorful works, ranging from pop culture celebration to semi-traditional portraiture, and his choice of color is every bit as cool as his subject matter. You can see more of Aaron's work at his Deviant Art page below.
Itsa Mario, as a cute and cuddly cube! No arms, no legs, no problem cause the only adventure this little guy is going on happens in the dreamworld. The folks over at ComicsAlliance have commissioned reboot cover art for indie comics from Kevin Mellon, one of the finest illustrators working in the industry today, and the results are pretty freakin' awesome. Take this reboot for example, Scott Pilgrim as the kick ass hardcore hero he deserves to be, rendered in a stark and angular style that is befitting his amazing abilities. Each cover comes with a brief synopsis of the rebooted storyline, and if Scott Pilgrim's is any indication of how future titles will look then we're in for a real treat:
Scott Pilgrim came to the big city full of big dreams about making it as a rap-metal mega-star -- at least, until he met Ramona Flowers, the gorgeous hooker-cum-drug mule that he couldn't seem to get out of his mind. When Ramona finally tries to break ties with her pimp Gideon Graves -- a vicious crime lord who has been flooding the streets of Toronto with a dangerous new drug called "Glow" -- only Scott can save her from the consortium of increasingly deadly hitmen that Gideon sends to take her out.
Now that's what I call re-envisioning a storyline! Look for more reboots to premiere in the coming months at ComicsAlliance.

What's the hottest new home accessory that will make your life easier and way more fun? Well, it's probably not this sadistic little number, and if you think this thing looks like fun then you're sick! Leo Voelker applied for a patent for this strange device, a combination bird catcher and cat feeder, in 1979 and either the guy hates birds or there was a plague of them in his backyard. Feeding your cute little kitty never seemed so gross, and I wouldn't want to be the one who has to clean out the trap. Oh, according to Leo you won't have to clean it:
“The cat feeder by its design is self-cleaning since the cat quickly learns to remove the sparrow from the cage.”
Thankfully, you won't be seeing these in your neighborhoods anytime soon, and cats will just have to settle for birds they can catch on their own.
These frogs aren't going to give up their legs lightly. Species of frog are rapidly evolving adaptations, such as the small fangs they've grown, on the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia, and scientists are amazed by how far they've come in such a short period of time. One reason is their lack of competition on the island, another reason being the frogs that live on the island all dwell within their own individual pocket, so as to avoid further rivalry over food. Nine species of frogs on Sulawesi have never been documented by scientist before, and thirteen species have developed the cute little choppers, making them look like something out of a Twilight-Muppets crossover. There's lots more to read on the subject at PhysOrg.com.
There is no doubt that the work of Carlos Villagra is in demand. From concept art to comic book illustrations, Carlos brings originality of design and style to each piece, then renders them beautifully until you get awesomeness like this re-imagining of Buzz Lightyear. Head on over to ComicsAlliance and check out a small gallery of his works, then be sure to visit Carlos' blog if you like what you see and want more. Will Pixar ever be bold enough to re-imagine their characters in such a way? Not likely...
Even the most die-hard air band enthusiast knows just how silly they look when they're jamming out on a drum set or guitar that simply isn't there. And audiences don't appreciate the hard work and talent that went in to mimicking musicianship when they can't see the source of the sweet sounds. Enter Air Band for Kinect on Xbox 360, a game that brings your invisible instruments to life via snazzy neon graphics that will make you feel right at home when you're playing an epic rendition of "More Than A Feeling". Now your audience will no longer be disappointed, and you can show them why you've been practicing so hard all these years! Kinect Fun Labs-Air Band debuts on August 22nd.
Not all cosplay takes place on the floor of some comic convention somewhere, and adding a setting or proper lighting really makes these characters pop. Take a look at this gallery from ComicsAlliance and see just what every cosplayer wishes they could look like. If only I could get people to clear the floor around the characters when i'm shooting pics at Comic Con!
As a mythic figure of the Old West, they don't come much bigger than Butch Cassidy. The outlaw became a legend in his own time, and was thought to have died in Bolivia in 1908. But new evidence, in the form of a manuscript supposedly penned by the legend himself, shows that he may have lived another twenty odd years of peaceful anonymity in Washington state. Entitled "Bandit Invincible: The Story of Butch Cassidy", this 200 page discovery was acquired by a rare book collector who feels that the work is the real deal. Other historians are quick to dismiss it as nothing more than a fake, but many of the facts contained within the pages seems to be knowledge only Butch himself would have been privy to, and sightings of the outlaw in America well after he was supposed to have died seem to support the books authenticity. Looks like historians have a gunfight on their hands! Read more about this fascinating new find over at ArtDaily.

If you're upset about the state of education in America, here's a ray of hope in the form of a robotic hand. Created by Colorado high school student Easton LaChappelle, this mechanical marvel was ingeniously printed out of paper and fiberglass, and is controlled remotely by Easton via glove control, which allows the young inventor the privilege of congratulating himself. Watch the hand in action over at PopSci.
