Surreal Wooden Sculptures By Yoshitoshi Kanemaki

(Video Link)

Sculptors who choose to work in wood fight an uphill battle against the grain, as they try to make contours look smooth and human body parts as realistic as possible.

But wood is a medium chosen because of its heart, and it’s the tool carved facets and random grain patterns that most people find warm and appealing.

Japanese sculptor Yoshitoshi Kanemaki has definitely found his heart in wood as a medium, and between his purposeful incorporation of tool marks, his retention of grain pattern beneath layers of paint, and his signature cartoon-surreal style his sculptures are a delight to behold, full of humanistic symbolism which gently blows your mind like a light breeze rustling leaves on a tree branch.

(Video Link)

Space is the place where nobody can hear you scream, the final frontier full of strange new worlds, alien lifeforms and lots of stars, and it’s also the setting for this retro sci-fi themed short Malaise.

Malaise is a short that feels like a segment from a feature length film-it's punchy, bloody and very stylish, with CGI characters and backgrounds that have the look of stop motion animation. It was created by Daniel Beaulieu from the Vancouver Film School, made as a final project for a 3D animation class, and from the look of this short Daniel has a bright future ahead of him.

Hands Are Symbols Of Desires And Fears

Appendages are growing out of all sorts of strange places in this creep-tastic series of digitally manipulated photos by Babak Hosseiny and Jeffrey Vanhoute entitled “O les mains”.

There are fingers where hair should be, angry arms ordering a hand to pull back on some poor guy’s face by his eyelids, and all sorts of appendage shaped protrusions in all kinds of wrong places.

Hosseiny was influenced by a Wittgenstein book he'd read about hands being the symbols of a person’s fears and desires, and together with Belgian photographer Jeffrey Vanhoute he brought this idea to light in a disturbingly surreal manner.

The images in the series were created using traditional studio photos of the subjects, which were then digitally composited together, creating the desired, and decidedly creepy, effect.

Hilarious Japanese Translations Of Hollywood Movie Titles

For some reason movie titles don’t survive the trip across the ocean unscathed, and when international audiences go see a movie they may not be totally sure what they’re going to see because the title has been so badly butchered.

A website called Rocketnews24 has taken it upon themselves to reveal this title butchery by translating Japanese versions of Hollywood movie titles back into English, showing us how easy it is for Being John Malovich to become Malcovich’s Hole, Despicable Me de-evolves into Mysterious Thief Gru’s Moon Theft, and a third Final Destination becomes a ride on a Final Deadcoaster.

Adorable Bulldog Puppy Rolling Down A Hill

(Video Link)

This wrinkly little English bulldog is named Sophie, and she has figured out that the fastest way to get down a hill without falling on your face is to roll to the bottom.

Apparently rolling is a common English bulldog behavior, so it's not surprising that this little girl figured it out at such an early age, and once she gets going it looks like she's having fun and doesn't want to stop!

Bulldogs are so cute when they're pups, with those faces all wrinkly and those tiny legs attached to that signature sausage body, but it seems the only way to make them cuter is to dress them up in a little hoodie.

Rare Photos From The Rothschild Illuminati Ball In 1972

The Rothschilds are one of the wealthiest families in the world, and they were known for throwing wicked costume parties back in the day, with only the most famous and distinguished guests in attendance.

However, very few photos have surfaced from their decadent soirees, and those photos which have been released reveal how the one percent get their party on.

In 1972 Baron Guy De Rothschild and his wife Marie-Helene hosted a Surreal Face themed party at the Chateau de Ferrieres, where their famous guests, including Salvador Dali and Audrey Hepburn, were asked to wear "black tie, long dresses and surrealists heads".

The guests didn't disappoint, arriving with wildly decorated heads and austere garb, but it seems all the crazy facepaint and liquor in the world couldn’t liven up such a stiff crowd!

B-Roll Footage From The Muppets Most Wanted

(Video Link)

The Muppets Most Wanted is about to hit theaters, treating legions of puppet loving people to a new big screen adventure starring their favorite fleece covered friends.

Filming an epic movie like The Muppets Most Wanted means lots of B-roll footage and scenes removed from the final edit of the film, and for fans of the filmmaking process these unused scenes give us insight into the entire process, and shows how a scene starring a puppet actually comes together.

But since this is actual B-roll footage from the film there are all kinds of spoilers, so don’t watch if you’re worried about spoilers ruining your Muppet movie viewing experience, just come back and watch the clips after you've seen the film!

Animated Short Set In Post-Apocalyptic Brooklyn - Fathoms

(Video Link)

Animator Joe Russ drew inspiration for his epic length CGI short Fathoms from his father’s untimely death due to cancer when Joe was only seventeen, he drew the funds to complete the film from a successful Kickstarter campaign, and he drew, and animated, and created over a six year period, working mostly on nights and weekends, until he'd finished this heartfelt project.

Fathoms is a touching, relatable and beautifully melancholic short film about “Sam, Evan, and Hippo the cat as they struggle to survive and find meaning in a flooded world haunted by remnants of the past”, and with a total runtime of just under twenty minutes you're going to have to set some time aside to watch this one, but believe me-it's worth it.

Steve McCurry's Photographic Vision Of Ethiopia

Photographer Steve McCurry has an epic vision which he has been happily sharing with the world for over 30 years, and his knack for revealing the heart and soul of his subjects makes him the perfect person to call when you need help promoting a humanistic cause.

This photo journey took Steve to Ethiopia, more specifically to the remote Omo Valley region, where he was invited to capture the plight of the Omo children and help spread the word about a great cause.

The Omo Child charity takes care of children who are considered mingi (cursed) by their tribe and either sent to die in the desert or ritualistically murdered.

These unwanted mingi children are given a home and an education thanks to the efforts of Lale Lubuko and photographer John Rowe, founders of Omo Child, and with Steve McCurry’s intimate and illustrative photo series showing the world who their donations are benefitting the Omo children will hopefully receive the funding help they so desperately need.

This Dog Really Knows How To Get Comfy

It's tough to be a dog, especially if your owners have kids, and sometimes a dog just wants to kick back and relax with some canine “me” time.

This dog may not be able to iron out all the wrinkles in his life, or his face, but at least he’s got time to kick back on the couch and sip on some Irish coffee before heading back to the daily grind of bone chewing, digging holes in the backyard and chasing the neighborhood cats off the fence. A dog’s work is never done…

Lowcost Cosplay Means Never Having To Leave Your House

Cosplayers are creating the most amazingly realistic costumes these days- with 3D printed accessories, handmade replica weapons that look better than the animated versions, and intricate costumes created with foam and friendly plastics that combine sculpting and sewing in an amazing ode to their favorite characters.

But what if you want to have some cosplay fun but lack the sculpting/sewing skills and don't feel like leaving the house?

You do like Thai cosplayer Anucha “Cha” Saengchart and create some Lowcost Cosplay. You can tell Cha loves three things- dressing up, hanging out at home, and coming up with creative ways to incorporate common household objects into his costumes.
