22 Clever Ways To Repurpose Old Junk

People are way more into recycling these days and will reuse easy stuff like plastic bags and coffee cans to “go green”, but repurposing old junk is a bit harder and may require a bit of inspiration and instruction.

Well, consider this article by Popular Mechanics a great jumping off point for ways to put that old junk lying around your house to work for you.

Have an old tire rim taking up space in your garage? Surround it with some bricks or stones and you've got a handsome and durable tire rim fire pit that will last a lot longer than many store bought fire pits.

Sitting on a bunch of pipe fittings from your last major plumbing repair? Clean them up, add some color and turn those leftover plumbing bits into a custom made Steampunk inspired chess set, which makes a great gift and conversation piece.

Don't know what to do with those old cheese graters after they've started to rust? Make some fun and funky cheese grater pendant lights that look great hanging in a kitchen or dining area.

Eye-Pleasing 3D Animated Visualization Of A Kung Fu Master's Fluid Movements

Some martial arts are all about striking power, defending against attacks and other similarly martial matters, but Kung Fu has always been about both fighting ability and grace.

The basic patterns learned by practitioners of kung fu teach fluid motion, strong yet graceful movement and body positioning for striking and defending, all while looking like a deadly cool dance.

German artist Tobias Gremmler has brought the concept of fluid motion to life with a little help from 3D animation software, revealing the invisible ripples a kung fu master creates in the air during their routine.

Celebrity Pranks That Ended In Disaster

George Clooney is famous among the famous for his pranks, and cardboard cutout of a human Ashton Kutcher is such a prankster he had his own prank show called Punk'd, but Clooney's pranks don't end in physical assault.

Punk'd, on the other hand, featured a segment where Donald Faison pranked his Scrubs co-star Zach Braff by making him believe his brand new Porsche had been tagged on by a group of teen ne'er-do-wells.

Donald clearly wasn't aware of Zach's anger issues, nor could he have known Zach would chase down and beat the crap out of a 12-year-old, which they was edited out of the episode because "you're not supposed to punch people on Punk'd".

And speaking of pranks pushing an actor to their limit- Leonardo DiCaprio seems to think beating the crap out of his fellow actors is a funny prank, but Wolf Of Wall Street co-star Jonah Hill isn't a fan of the rough stuff, so he decided to teach Leo a lesson.

Jonah's improv skills gave him the perfect opportunity to prank while filming a scene where he and Leo are eating sushi- the script called for Jonah to eat the last piece but he thought fast and had Leo eat it instead.

The scene was reshot about 70 more times to get the version we saw in the film, which meant Leo had to eat 70 pieces of sushi in one day, leaving him with one hell of a gut ache much to Hill's (and Scorsese's) delight.

A 61-Year-Old Mom Takes Magic Mushrooms For The First Time

Taking psychedelic drugs was an integral part of Hippie life back in the 60s and 70s, but not everyone who lived through that experimental era took drugs and tripped out.

Some self described “close minded” people didn't dare mess with their minds by taking drugs when they were younger, but as they grow older they start to wonder what they were missing.

So when a clinical yet caring son found out his 61-year-old mom was open to eating Psilocybin 'shrooms he decided to give her a safe (1 gram) dose and record the experience on video, strictly for the sake of research, of course.

(YouTube Link)

I'm surprised she experienced such strong effects considering how small a dose she took, but at least she had fun with this freaky little experiment!

Dying Car Alarm Lays Down A Funky Beat

Most automobile madness has something to do with the electrical system, as dying batteries cause cars to do all sorts of strange things, and apparently dying car alarms create funky beats.

A musician named Guamu was walking by a car one day when he heard its dying car alarm laying down a funky beat, which inspired him to

(YouTube Link)

Hopefully Guamu will share any profits he makes from the song with that poor sick car so it can afford to buy a new battery.

Legends And Lore From Ninja History

Ninjas are shady characters full of secrets, and their history is likewise shrouded in mystery to keep outsiders from learning of their ways and ruining all their ninja fun.

But the ninjas we see in pop culture are mutant animals, blonde Americans, and a funny fat guy in Beverly Hills, a far cry from the real shadowy assassins of yore.

Pop culture has been faithful to ninja history in a few ways, namely the fact that there were female ninjas we now call Kunoichi and that ninjas were every bit as honorable as samurai.

The ninja's significance in Japanese history has been overshadowed by the samurai, but if they weren't as important as samurai why did Japanese Lords Hideyoshi Toyotomi and Oda Nobunaga try to kill them all off in the late 16th century?

Ninja warriors were also involved in castle sieges, sometimes using a fun ferris wheel-esque device called a Yagura to quickly launch over the wall and "jump into the fortified position".

But when they preferred a silent but deadly approach ninjas used hooked spears to slip into a castle in the dead of night, as they did in 1562 when Tokugawa Ieyasu hired a team of 80 ninjas to capture Castle Kaminojo and rescue Tokugawa's family.

6 Hit Songs Written By Prince

(Image Link)

The amazing music Prince the recording artist shared with the world will live on forever, and whenever we hear doves cry or see purple rain falling we will think of the mega-talented Prince Rogers Nelson.

Prince played at least 27 different instruments, danced like a funky angel, and gave us his innovative blend of rock and funk so we can boogie our raspberry berets off without shame.

But he was also an incredibly gifted songwriter, who wrote a bunch of hit songs for other artists, including "Nothing Compares 2 U" for Sinead O'Connor.

(Image Link)

Prince didn't like the foul language used by Sinead during press conferences, so the two butted heads and actually had what she described as a "punch up", which somehow seems like a fair match.

Madonna was another fair match for Prince, and shortly after the two dated Prince wrote the song "Love Song" which they recorded together for Like A Prayer in 1988.

(YouTube Link)

And even though Prince didn't get any love when he recorded "I Feel For You" for his first album back in 79 he would later earn a Grammy for the song when Chaka Khan made it a huge hit in 1984.

(YouTube Link)

So even if you didn't like the songs he recorded himself chances are there's a hit song out there with Prince's name on it that you do like.

Cute Little Girl Looks Creepy In Adult Sized Coat

Little kids can make most any activity look adorable, and they love to do silly stuff that their family will get a kick out of, but sometimes their silly antics can look a tad terrifying.

An adorable kid wearing adult sized clothing normally = cute, but when the tiny cutie pie in this video puts on a large black coat and shambles around she ends up looking totally creepy.

Maybe this video shared by Kyoot Kids is actually test footage from the new G-rated installment in the Paranormal Activity series?

Police Under Fire For Using Anti-Terrorism Device To Track Sandwich Thief

(Image Via Jenny Yermit)

Police officers take food very seriously, so if you rip off one of their favorite eateries expect to have the full force of the law brought down upon you, even if all you stole were wings and sub sandwiches.

A hungry crook in Annapolis, Maryland stole 15 chicken wings and 3 sub sandwiches (total value $56.77) from a pizza shop employee on a delivery run and the police are now under fire for using a Stingray phone tracker to hunt the thief.

(Image Link)

The Stingray is a small device that acts like a portable cell phone tower, allowing police officers to capture info from nearby mobile devices and therefore tramples all over our right to privacy.

This device is typically only used to track terrorists, and yet the Baltimore police department has used it more than 4,300 times since 2007, which is causing some courtroom controversy in Maryland.

The Annapolis police didn't catch the sandwich thief, so using a Stingray was not only an abuse of their power- it was one of the most expensive operations ever mounted to catch a guy who stole some wings and subs.

Designer Brings Ridiculous Drawings Of Bicycles To Life

There's a huge difference between sketching and design drawing, and the biggest difference between the two is the need for precision.

Design drawings are created so something can be physically built from the illustrations, while sketches are supposed to be kept loose and quick, a reaction rather than a precise rendering.

Designer Gianluca Gimini thought it might be fun to turn a scratchy sketch of a bicycle into a realistic design, and after five years of gestation he was ready to bring this concept to life.

Gianluca asked hundreds of people to sketch a bicycle from memory on a sheet of paper, then he turned their ridiculous designs into 3D renderings of real (but hardly ever functional) bicycles for his series "Velocipedia".

Even though many of them wouldn't function for long before falling apart, it would be interesting to ride them all and see how the little errors in the sketch affect how each bike feels to ride.

Uplifting Comic Story Arcs That Will Restore Your Faith In Metahumanity

Comic books used to tell uplifting stories written to teach a moral lesson, but the anti-hero trend came along in the 1970s and changed the world where superheroes live into a much darker place.

The morals were replaced by vigilante justice and dark vengeance, and the upright heroes from the old school started looking a bit hokey compared to those brooding bad boys and girls.

But morality, justice and hope will always have a place in comic books, and sometimes it's nice to see superstars like Deadpool, Harley Quinn and Spider-Man trading the sarcasm for some serious heartfelt expression.

Deadpool teaches a kid named Evan, who is the mutant god Apocalypse reborn, to be okay with his dark heritage, Harley frees herself from the Joker's grasp once and for all, and Spider-Man says goodbye to a young fan with terminal cancer.

These are the tales that amaze us with their emotional depth and astound us with their impact on our non-fictional lives, the story arcs that are nice to read in-between epic battle scenes.

Kid Wakes Up From Anesthesia With Strange Accent And Even Stranger Story

(Image Link)

Everyone handles the effects of anesthesia differently, and for some people coming down is the hardest part of the process.

The kid in this video is named Brandon, and he woke up in a hospital bed speaking in a vaguely Jersey Shore inspired accent and talking loud about how his boy Rocco knocked somebody out.

(YouTube Link)

Is there actually a Rocco? Brandon's mom certainly doesn't seem to think so, but apparently Brandon was dreaming about hanging with Rocco in Dubai, and a camel in a Camaro...cah-ray-zee talk!

Dash Cam Footage Shows Kangaroo Attacking Car At Midnight

I have it on good authority that Australia is full of kangaroos, and if you go there to visit you will most likely see a 'roo hopping around at some point during your trip.

This same authority will tell you that kangaroos are feisty critters that shouldn't be approached in the wild because they may attack, and a kick from their hind legs can cause grievous bodily harm.

But what the authority failed to mention is that kangaroos are so feisty they'll take on a car, using their mighty legs to take out a driver- Mad Max style. (Contains NSFW language)

(YouTube Link)

Apparently Australia turns into an island of terror at night, where roving kangaroo wrecking crews patrol the roads looking for victims...

Car Repairs So Bad They're Brilliant

It must be amusing to work as an auto mechanic and watch all those wrecks and “there, I fixed it” jalopies roll in begging to be sent to that great big junkyard in the sky.

Oh the stories those mechanics must tell while sitting around the table at dinner time, tales of duct tape patch jobs and Coke can pipe repairs.

Hopefully when someone rolls in with one of these poorly patched up automobiles those kindly mechanics cut them a deal, because you know someone is broke when they can't even afford a new tire!
