The tape measure itself is the tool... if it's not a true tape measure, then it doesn't qualify for the record. Why measure a tape measure with *another* tape measure?
Or you could measure it with a range-finder, or a GPS.
There are roundabouts with traffic lights too... but the point of the roundabout is to save the traffic light stop. The lights are getting smarter, they're just not smart enough yet... if they'd get real smart (like telling each other about traffic they've passed) then they'd be more efficient than roundabouts... which BTW take up more space than lights or signs. And the 'some people' argument begs the question... anyone driving should have been trained properly, yes? I don't expect to see them in USA, we're too far gone... and when the self-driving car comes out, the point will be moot.
