I Made Ariana Grande’s Grammys Dress

The Giambattista Valli gown that Ariana Grande wore at the Grammys recently was humongous, lavish and obviously expensive. While her outfit did produce some memes about her becoming the next flying-type elite four member of the Pokemon league, some people did want to wear something similar to Ariana’s dress, without paying the high price. Micarah Tewers does exactly that. With $40, 150 yards of fabric, and the help of her friends and family, watch as she recreates the famed dress!

The Epidemic Pattern

To some extent, humanity gets predictable. Scientists and psychologists are able to study the human mind to some extent, and they can map out some aspects of one’s behaviour or response to the environment. However, it doesn’t take a psychologist to see how humanity responds to the spread of sickness. Whenever a disease or illness spreads far and wide and becomes an epidemic, there seems to be a pattern in how every human institution (media, government, public-health systems) responds to the spread of contagious diseases. The Atlantic’s Karl Taro Greenfeld states that the pattern that an epidemic follows are denial, panic, fear, and rational response:

If you want to panic, go right ahead. It’s what we do. It’s what your ancestors did. Then be afraid. Eventually, however, roll up your sleeves and get to work, scrubbing this bug back to whatever its host species happens to be. We’ll get there. Humanity has so far survived every microbe that has jumped the species barrier, and we will survive this one.

Brother Crashes His Sister’s Wedding With A Llama

Mendl Weinstock promised his sister that he’d crash her wedding with a llama in a tuxedo. Five years later, Weinstock fulfilled that promise, costing him $450, and making his sister’s wedding even more memorable. Boredpanda has the details:

The bride’s first reaction to the llama waiting outside was to say “I hate you so much” to her brother, although she later revealed that she wasn’t really mad and wouldn’t let it change the good time she had. Mendl even wrote in response to some people thinking this would ruin the newlywed’s day: “Actually despite many Redditors telling me I “ruined” her big day, she still had an amazing time and has told me 100x that I did not ruin it but instead made it 10x more memorable.”

Barcodes As Instruments

Who could have thought that scanning endless patterns of barcodes would produce music? Electronicos Fantasticos has utilized a barcode system on store shelves to recycle electronics as musical instruments. When the barcode patterns are scanned, a corresponding sound wave is produced by a linked audio component, as Colossal details:

The black and white stripes produce a variety of rhythmic and tonal noises in two instrumental projects: the Barcoder, shown above, and Barcodress, a pattern-covered gown that’s played when the wearer moves in front of the scanner. Artist and musician Ei Wada (previously) leads the design group, which said in a statement that its goal is to create an entire orchestra of similar instruments. To watch more of the barcode projects in use, head to Instagram and YouTube.

There’s A Weird Hole On Mars

An image posted to the NASA science blog and Astronomy Photo of the Day shows a mountain that seems hollowed out. It actually isn’t a hollowed mountain on Mars, but a lava tube ‘skylight’. The lava tube ‘skylight’ is a product of ancient volcanic activity below the surface of Mars. The feature is on the slopes of a volcano called Pavonis Mons, home to grabens, or long snaking lava tubes, as ScienceAlert details:

Lava tube caves like this are exciting because they offer some protection from the harsh radiation that bombards Mars. This means that they could be good sites to establish underground bases (if they are accessible; this particular one doesn't look like it's easy to get in and out of).
But there's another implication, too. If we're going to look for signs of life on Mars, caves might be the best option.
"Holes such as this are of particular interest because their interior caves are relatively protected from the harsh surface of Mars, making them relatively good candidates to contain Martian life," the APOD post explained.
"These pits are therefore prime targets for possible future spacecraft, robots, and even human interplanetary explorers."

Punctured Movie Ticket Allows Users To See Their Seat Using The Cinema Screen

This movie ticket can now help you locate your seat as the movie plays. Li Peitong has created the ‘shiny movie ticket’ design. The seat and row number is punctured on the ticket, allowing users to use the light emitted by the screen to see their seating location. Users would only have to hold the ‘shiny movie ticket’ by the cinema screen, and then be able to identify their seat. The ticket has been awarded the A’ design award winner for idea design category in 2018.

WHO Joins Tiktok To Fight Misinformation Against Coronavirus

The World Health Organization has joined Tiktok to stop misinformation about coronavirus. People have shared false information through various social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tiktok. WHO decided to join Tiktok to provide reliable and public health advice. USA Today has the details:

“We are joining @tiktok to provide you with reliable and timely public health advice! Our first post: How to protect yourself from #coronavirus,” the public safety organization wrote in its first post on the platform.
Allegranzi tells viewers to wash their hands, cough and sneeze into their elbows and avoid close contact with sick people. WHO previously announced social media efforts to combat what it calls an "infodemic" or "an over-abundance of information ... that makes it hard for people to find trustworthy sources and reliable guidance when they need it."
The organization uploaded a second video over the weekend explaining how to properly wear a respiratory mask. The agency doesn't advise most people to go out and buy them.

Is It A Dog Or Is It A Cat?

It seems that the Internet had a new debate to settle. Dui is an adorable fuzzy grey animal. He has a dog’s snout and tongue, but also has cat-like ears. While some coo at his appearance, some are confused and can’t decide Dui’s species. The Internet has created speculations as to what Dui’s species is, as DailyStar details:

They speculated he may be a cross between a corgi and a Vietnamese breed called Hmong, while others suggested he could be a corgi mixed with a British shorthair cat.
"So like is it a cat, dog, or some new kind of fox that we will keep seeing on the internet... but nobody knows how to get one?" one Reddit user pondered.
Another joked: "Do you want a cat or a dog? YES."
His owners have finally answered the speculation: Dúi is actually a mix of a native Vietnamese dog breed and a short-legged dog breed known as Dingo.

Parrot Gets Prosthetic Wings

A green-cheeked parakeet has been given a prosthetic set of wing feathers after hers were cut off by her owner. The parakeet, named Wei Wei, was in agony and unable to fly without falling into the ground after her wing feathers were clipped off. The vets at The Unusual Pet Vets in Brisbane, Australia made the prosthetic wings to help Wei Wei fly again, as Metro UK detailed:

Dr Catherine Apuli made Wei Wei’s prosthetics out of feathers donated to the clinic which had been cleaned, sterilised and dried. Dr Apuli said: ‘Primary flight feathers – the big feathers at the ends of the wings – which have been traumatized may result in pain, bleeding, unwanted aggressive behaviour and self-induced feather plucking. ‘The imping procedure was performed to prevent further physical injury and to regain flight for optimal mental and physical health.’ Wing clipping is carried out to restrict flight and protect indoor birds from injuring themselves on ceiling fans or by flying into large windows. But the practice is controversial, with experts saying there is no evidence to suggest clipped birds are any safer than those with full wings when kept inside as pets.

Sharknappers Stole A Shark And Wheeled It Out In A Baby Stroller

Three people snatched a shark from San Antonio Aquarium and wheeled it out in a baby stroller. Police officers initially refused to believe the initial 911 call concerning the ‘sharknapping’, but was convinced that the incident was real later on. The shark is alive and on its way back to aquarium, and one suspect is in custody, as NBC News detailed:

Security video released Monday shows the sharknappers strolling through the aquarium's hallway pushing the baby carriage along on Saturday before they drove off with the 16-inch shark in a red pickup truck.
The aquarium said the thieves brought their own net with them to snag the shark from an interactive "touch pool" at the tide pool exhibit while an attendant was assisting other visitors.
They then ducked into a filter room and emptied out a bleach bucket, into which they deposited the shark, the aquarium said. They used the bucket to transfer the shark into the stroller and "hurried up the stairs and out to the parking lot," it said.
The aquarium said managers raced to the parking lot and caught up with the suspects — who denied access to both the vehicle and the stroller.
