No way am I eating bugs. Nope. Not gonna happen and I don't care how fine they crush them into powder to trick you into having a protein shake! NO! Read my words - "NO!"
Every year - back in the late 70's and 80's - when it got to be Fall I would work in a novelty store that sold theatrical make-up, Halloween costumes and tons of novelty items. I was the resident make-up artist who did faces for adults. I gave kids black eyes for free (with make-up, of course!) My specialty was werewolves using crepe hair and facial glue to layer the hair onto their skin bit by bit. I could do a complete werewolf in an hour including hands and chest.
Anyway, this note is longer than I meant it to be. What I was getting around to saying was that I had to hear the Monster Mash on October 31st before midnight every year. It was like some sort of superstitious mania that compelled me to hear that song on the radio on that very day. I just love that song and Halloween just isn't Halloween to me without hearing it.
The abominable practice of cutting honey with up to 50% filler such as corn syrup is a real danger to people with corn allergies. The FDA allows this polluting of honey as long as the filler isn't more than 50% AND the seller/supplier does not have to tell you about it. Many companies will heat the honey and ruin the benefits of it because heating the honey to a high enough degree will prevent the honey crystallizing. Raw honey will crystalize but it can be liquified by putting the jar into a pot of hot water. It's a long process because it must be done slowly. IMO, buckwheat honey is the best for people with allergies and for the darker, stronger taste which makes wonderful bread. Not everyone's a fan of it because it is so much darker and has a bit of an aftertaste. But people who like dark brown sugar and molasses will love it, I think.
I had a Maine Coon cat a long time ago. He was huge, bigger than a full grown Pekinese. His paws were enormous and his head was wider than a human's head. He weighed 30 pounds and was the sweetest cat I've ever had the privilege to serve. I still miss him and his motorboat purr...
In junior high I always looked forward to Friday lunches because it was a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. I loved the soup because they made it with water -not milk- and then boiled the hell out of it so it got this wonderful rich tomato tasting flavor. Yum!
