Cat Evicted from Post Office for Not Paying Taxes

A cat named Sammy was usually seen lounging in the window of the post office in Notasulga, Alabama until someone complained.
"They said 'This is a federal building and he doesn't pay federal taxes so he can't come in'," said postal worker Rochelle Langford.

From the pose he strikes in this photo, Sammy doesn't seem too happy about the eviction. But Sammy's supporters think they have found a way around the banishment. They have rented a post office box in his name! Link -via Arbroath

Sashimi Tabernacle Choir

Geeks Are Sexy has an exclusive video interview with the creator of The Sashimi Tabernacle Choir, a singing seafood delight!

Texan Richard Carter took a Volvo, 5 miles of wire, five 6-volt golf cart batteries, a screw drive mechanism using 12v DC reversible motor, a lifting frame he made from scratch, a Linux server and approximately two hundred synchronized singing fish, and created what can only be described as an awesomely effective assault on good taste.

The choir performs Hooked on a Feeling and The Hallelujah Chorus in the video. Link -Thanks, Yan!

Five of the World's Weirdest Plants

Some plants don't act like plants at all. Some trap prey, mimic animals, or smell bad. This picture is an example of Nepenthes lowii, which is related to insect-trapping plants, but prefers to attract birds with a tasty laxative secretion. It then survives on bird droppings! Read about this and four other weird plants at Blogleech. Link -via the Presurfer

Finger Length = Financial Success?

The length of a man's ring finger appears to predict his success at financial trading. As an indicator, finger length has as much impact as his years of experience. The length ratio of the ring finger to the middle finger is set before birth, and has to do with a fetus' exposure to androgen, a male hormone.
In the new study, the researchers measured the right hands of 44 male stock traders who were engaged in a type of trade that involved rapid decision-making and quick physical reactions.

Over 20 months those with longer ring fingers compared to their index fingers made 11 times more money than those with the shortest ring fingers. Over the same time the most experienced traders made about 9 times more than the least experienced ones.

Looking only at experienced traders, the long-ring-finger folks earned 5 times more than those with short ring fingers.

While the finger ratio, showing fetal exposure to male hormones, appears to signal likely success in high-actively trading that calls for risk-taking and quick reactions, it may not indicate people who would do well at other sorts of financial activities, the researchers said.

So, guys, if a job interviewer looks at your fingers, they may be checking more than just how clean you keep them. Link -Thanks, Geekazoid!

Taco Bell Wedding

Paul and Caragh Brooks spent a total of about $200 on their wedding, in front of family and friends at a Taco Bell restaurant in Normal, Illinois.
With several dozen invited guests in the room, the couple sat in a decorated booth with Ryan Green of Normal, a friend of theirs who became an ordained minister online. As Green, dressed in a T-shirt, officiated, they said the same vows.

“I promise to honor your life’s choices, comfort you in sorrow, celebrate in your joy and support your endeavors…,” they said. “Whatever the world brings, I take you as my partner.”

Business went on as usual in the front area of Taco Bell, and some customers in the Friday night supper rush stopped to watch.

Shortly before the ceremony, Kathy Brooks, the groom’s mother, said, “This is the way to go — there’s no stress.”

Smuggling Drugs with a Remote-control Helicopter

Was it a case of drug smuggling or not? First, closed circuit cameras picked up the image of a tiny helicopter flying into the compound at Elmley Prison in Sheerness, Kent, England. The next night, guards saw the flying object.
However, staff could not find any trace of either the helicopter or the package which it appeared to be carrying underneath it when they searched the Category C jail.

'Using a mini-helicopter to get contraband into jails is unprecedented. When officers spotted it they nearly fell off their chairs', a prison source told the Sun.

'It could have been drugs or a mobile phone in the package. It is possible it was a dummy run.'

Maybe the helicopter flew out as well. Link -via Unique Daily

Freedom for Big Lobster

A 20-pound lobster named George will be returned to the sea after a stay in a New York restaurant. From his size, the lobster is estimated to be around 140 years old. George was caught off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada and was on bought by City Crab and Seafood for $100. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) sent the restaurant a request to set George free.
Restaurant manager Keith Valenti said there was never any intent to harm the lobster, and the decision to keep it in the tank was made to offer customers a little something extra.

"We bought a big lobster, started taking pictures with kids and it worked out real well," Mr Valenti told Reuters news agency.

But it was a "no brainer", he added, to agree to the request to return George to the ocean.

"We never intended him to be sold, just draw attention to the restaurant, and he did."

George was scheduled to be released in the waters off Kennebunkport, where lobster trapping is prohibited. Link -Thanks, Geekazoid!
