And you might quibble with the psychology prize going to a study from more than 50 years ago, but it does bring up a mental image.
Sure, people spoke those words, but what we have left today is the written equivalent. We don't know what they sounded like, even though our guess for the 16th century is probably pretty accurate. We don't know how words in ancient Sumerian were pronounced. Sound recordings only began in the 1800s.
