The does point to a lack of poverty in Sweden. I, and my parents before me, would always feed any kids who were there because they often had little food at home. This sometimes left my dad a bit peeved, because we barely had enough to go around ourselves.

My children noted that I complain that the local Chinese restaurant's menu is too bland, and I have to order the "extra hot" dishes to get any flavor at all, but they still aren't hot. So my youngest went out of town one day and came back with Indian takeout. The receipt says the lamb curry was ordered "Indian hot." The family all watched for my reaction (as the only white person at the table), which was delighted. Unfortunately, someone ate all the leftovers before I could get more.

Reminds me of a story. Back during the Great Depression, in a Kentucky coal camp, my grandparents raised a garden just like their neighbors. My grandma had pumpkin vines, and picked some pumpkin blossoms to deep fry for supper. She knew that
1. You pick off excess flowers from pumpkin vines to make the remaining pumpkins bigger. Male flowers won't develop fruit anyway.
2. Deep frying blossoms is just using a matrix for eating deep fried batter, like rosettes or funnel cakes.
However, there were no secrets in that small town. Some neighbors were shocked, and figured if my grandparents were reduced to eating flowers, they must be totally out of food. So the neighbors threw my grandparents a food shower, even though they were as well off as anyone else in town.
