For the Horde!!

Have you read Jeph Jacques' webcomic Questionable Content? It's a hoot! One of the characters, Marigold, has a proper sense of priorities when it comes to gaming.

YouTube user Hunter Davis does an outstanding impersonation of Sir Ian McKellen, the actor who played Gandalf in the LOTR movies. In the above video, he gives an interpretation McKellen repeating the theme song to The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Davis has a similar video using the theme from Ducktales.

Spider-Man, The Musical / Question of the Day

I'm playing catch-up on this one. There's going to be a Spider-Man musical? Yes.

However, lead actor Reeve Carney is still planning to make his debut as Peter Parker this fall, and shared some details about it when he dropped by MTV HQ this afternoon with his band, Carney. In fact, the musician-turned-actor said he's trying on the Spider-Man suit today!

"No joke — right after this, I'm going to get fitted for my Spider-Man suit," he told MTV News. "As soon as I put this microphone down... This is actually not a joke."

I'm not invested in the Spider-Man franchise, so I have no strong feelings about this project. But it does suggest a question that I would like to pose to readers:

What science fiction or superhero franchise would be the most inappropriate setting for a musical?

Crater Face

Crater Face is a sweet and touching short film by Skylar Page. It's about an astronaut who discovers two lonely moon pimples (don't ask me) and decides to play matchmaker. He risks everything to bring them together.

Amazing War Machine Costume

(YouTube Link)

Antony Le spent a month and $4,000 building this very realistic costume for War Machine, a character from the Iron Man franchise. The faceplate is powered, and the gatling gun actually spins:

Le, a fitness consultant, studied some concept sketches of the suit posted on the Internet. He used thin, high-impact urethane for the armor, cutting it into plates and joining them with some 1,500 rivets and washers. He sculpted a clay helmet mold and then used a liquid resin mix to create the final product. But that was just cosmetic work. He also added a small servo motor that opens the faceplate, as in the movie, and built a gun out of pipes and a motor. LEDs in the eyes and chest-plate further add to the illusion.

Outstanding Alien vs. Predator Fan Film

(Video Link)

It's hard to believe that Alex Popov's 22-minute film is actually a fan film. The production values are excellent, although Popov made it himself in his spare time over a two year period. The budget was just $500. Matt Burns of CrunchGear advises Hollywood to study this film, writing "what’s important is that the story is solid and a lot more true to the saga than Hollywood’s interpretations." Agreed.

Cartridge Mod Lets You Play Gameboy on a Standard NES

Nintendo Age user bunnyboy modified his Nintendo ES so that he can play Gameboy games from it:

This is basically the Super GameBoy, without the Super part. The guts of an original GB are transplanted into a NES cart. My incredibly amazing custom board then translates the GB graphics into NES format, and the NES controller to GB format. The original link port is accessible, so you can connect another GB or RetroVision or plug in the printer.

He's not modest about his accomplishment, but he doesn't need to be. It's awesome. More pictures at the link.
