Keep Alaska Weird

Which caliber for a flying eye laser beam-shooting grizzly bear? Bag limit of two per season.

I haven't been able to track down the artist responsible, but some people think that this is an illustration for a 90s era RPG called The World of Synnibarr.

Batman and The Thing on an AT-AT

These action figures are dismounting an AT-AT, having ridden it into battle. Conan's there, too. The Barbarian, not the comedian, although Conan O'Brien would be a good addition to this lamp by Etsy seller Zygmunt Jarzembowski.

Yes, it's round, which doesn't sell well with male customers, but we can make it work! We just have to pitch it the right way. Click on the link to submit your own design idea, and then watch it be brutally rejected.

Zombie Nativity Set

Strictly speaking, the three zombies from the East didn't arrive until much later, but it's traditional to place them at Bethlehem on Christmas. Etsy sellers Robin and Zered follow in this tradition with this nativity set made from Sculpey clay.

Sweaters for Penguins

Two weeks ago, there was a terrible oil spill off the coast of New Zealand. Skeinz, a yarn store in that country, responding by asking people to knit little sweaters for penguins who have been harmed by the oil. So many people around the world made them that Skeinz says that it has all of the sweaters that it can use!

Scientists Develop the Most Relaxing Tune

Sound therapists and stress specialists worked with the band Marconi Union to develop "Weightless", the most relaxing song ever:

Weightless works by using specific rhythms, tones, frequencies and intervals to relax the listener. A continuous rhythm of 60 BPM causes the brainwaves and heart rate to synchronise with the rhythm: a process known as ‘entrainment’. Low underlying bass tones relax the listener and a low whooshing sound with a trance-like quality takes the listener into an even deeper state of calm.

Dr David Lewis, one of the UK’s leading stress specialists said: “‘Weightless’ induced the greatest relaxation – higher than any of the other music tested. Brain imaging studies have shown that music works at a very deep level within the brain, stimulating not only those regions responsible for processing sound but also ones associated with emotions." [...]

The top 10 most relaxing tunes were: 1. Marconi Union - Weightless 2. Airstream - Electra 3. DJ Shah - Mellomaniac (Chill Out Mix) 4. Enya - Watermark 5. Coldplay - Strawberry Swing 6. Barcelona - Please Don't Go 7. All Saints - Pure Shores 8. AdelevSomeone Like You 9. Mozart - Canzonetta Sull'aria 10. Cafe Del Mar - We Can Fly

Hockey Team Adopts Chewbacca as Mascot

If your team is going to have a mascot, it has to be one that connects with people. That's why there was a movement by Ole Miss to adopt Admiral Ackbar. 'Cause when you think of Mississippi, you naturally think of the Admiral. It's a common association.

And that brings us to hockey. What creatures to you associate with hockey? Wookiees, of course! So the Port Huron hockey team The Fighting (Millennium) Falcons adopted Chewbacca as its mascot for one night.

Coupled Married for 72 Years Dies While Holding Hands

Gordon and Norma Yeager, aged 94 and 90 respectively, were married for 72 years. They were inseparable and deeply in love with each other during those seven decades. They died an hour apart last week in a hospital. There was some confusion when Gordon left because his heart monitor continued to pulse -- but that was because he was holding hands with Norma. Her heartbeat could be felt through his body:

"It was really strange, they were holding hands, and dad stopped breathing but I couldn't figure out what was going on because the heart monitor was still going," said Dennis Yeager. "But we were like, he isn't breathing. How does he still have a heart beat? The nurse checked and said that's because they were holding hands and it's going through them. Her heart was beating through him and picking it up."

"They were still getting her heartbeat through him," said Donna Sheets.

At 4:38 p.m., exactly one hour after Gordon died, Norma passed too.

Apparently You Can Fry an Egg in a Waffle Iron

I had no idea, but now I must try it! Jessica Segarra made a croque madame, which is a grilled ham and Swiss cheese sandwich with a fried egg on top. She cooked it with the waffle iron open so that the yolk wouldn't break. After three attempts, she was successful.

Sculptures from Welded Chains

Yeong-Deok Seo creates simply amazing nude figurative sculptures by welding chains together. The variety of textures that he can make with different types of chains is stunning. This one, assuming that Google Translate is working properly, is mysteriously entitled "Addict -- Meditation 3."
