LED Snowboarding

(Video Link)

After a busy day, there's something very soothing and calming about Jacob Sutton's video. The snowboarder, covered with lights, glides through the darkness. The frost parts before him without resistance, as though he was born for this movement.

redditor kerbyderwood was bicycling near Moss Landing, California when he saw a Google Street View car. He took a picture of it just as it took a picture of him. Then the universe collapsed in on itself.

Dr. Zaius Performing Mark Twain

(Video Link)

Actor/comedian/statesman John Hodgman searched the Internet to find a video of Dr. Zaius from Planet of the Apes impersonating Mark Twain. He was rightfully appalled to find that no such video yet existed.

Hodgman held us, the people of the Internet, responsible for this grievous omission. But in his mercy, he has forgiven us and brought the video into being. Let us be thankful for Hodgman's work, and that of Dana Gould who girded the armor of Zaius in this video.

Man Buys Old Safe for $122.93 on eBay, Finds $26,000 Inside

James Labrecque of California had an old safe, but no combination for it. He thought that it was empty, so he decided to sell it on eBay for scrap. A man in Bartlett, Tennessee bought it and took it to a welder. Inside the safe was $26,000 in cash:

"I feel like the stupidest idiot in the world," said Labrecque. "I told my friend, I won the stupidest idiot in the world award the other day, you know. I gave away a safe with $26,000 in it."

In a contentious e-mail chain Labrecque provided to Action News 5, he asked for a cut of the cash. The buyer declined, citing Labrecque's seller policy that states, "What you see is what you get, no returns, and no money back."

The buyer did, however, give Labrecque a positive review on eBay.

Pizza with a Hot Dog Crust

It's a time and labor-intensive recipe -- which almost belies the purpose of both hot dogs and pizzas -- but it'll be worth it. Great deeds require great efforts.

Some People Think This Sign Is Too Complex

Drivers in White Lake, Michigan have complained that a sign in front of Lakewood Elementary School is too complicated. But there's a legal reason why the sign has to this specific:

Bogie Lake Road is home to Lakeland High School, White Lake Middle School and Lakewood Elementary. The school district says the signs are for safety purposes, but it still begs the question: Why the need for six separate time zones?

"We have three different schools, all of which have three different start times and end times,” said Kim Root, communications director with Huron Valley School District. "The law states you have to display the times in their specific windows, you can’t block it off and make it this big chunk of time."

Halftone Images Created with a Drill

Jeffrey Sgroi uses a computer-controlled router to drill halftones into painted Corian countertop material. The computer probably makes it faster. But I suspect that you could make one with careful planning, a drill and a set of countersink drill bits.

Chefs at Chicago's Alinea Restaurant devised a way to shape sugar into balloons, and then inflated the balloons with helium. How do you eat a sugar balloon? It's not that different from eating a regular balloon.
