Dog Walks Human

Dashcam video from the Czech Republic showed a huge St. Bernard dog taking a young boy for a walk. That may not have been the boy's original plan, but that's what happened.

The time stamp on the video indicates this took place on March 3 of this year.

Long Distance Runners Are More Reproductively Successful

(Photo: Peter Mooney)

Previous studies indicate that men who have ring fingers that are longer than their index fingers tend to have higher sex drives and sperm counts. They have greater "reproductive potential." A new study finds that long distance runners--specifically marathon runners--tend to have longer ring fingers. The authors take this as evidence that runners have an advantage in mating.

The study measured 542 men at the Robin Hood Marathon in Nottingham, UK. The Daily Telegraph reports on the results:

They found that the 10 per cent of men with the most masculine digit ratios were, on average, 24 minutes and 33 seconds faster than the 10 per cent of men with the least masculine digit ratios, suggesting that those who were better runners also had increased fertility.

“The observation that endurance running ability is connected to reproductive potential in men suggests that women in our hunter-gatherer past were able to observe running as a signal for a good breeding partner,” said the study’s lead author Dr Danny Longman.

“It was thought that a better hunter would have got more meat, and had a healthier – and larger – family as a consequence of providing more meat for his family.

How to Make Boozy Pop-Tarts

A sweet breakfast pastry is the right way to start the day. This modification only strengthens that claim. Meagan, a bartender at the Restaurant R'evolution in New Orleans, baked these scratch Pop-Tarts with a kick. Her professional knowledge includes how to mix a Midnight in Vermont, a cocktail that includes a ruby port wine. Meagan thought that the taste would work well in Pop-Tarts, so she made a glaze that includes half a cup of port.

Question: which wine should these Pop-Tarts be paired with?

Bobcat Catches Shark

(Photo: John Bailey)

John Bailey visited the Sebastian Inlet State Park near Vero Beach, Florida on Monday. While there, he got this fantastic shot of two dangerous predators fighting each other. A bobcat approached the water and snatched a 4-foot long shark. It dragged it onto the beach. When the bobcat saw Bailey, it fled for the woods inland.

This Isn't a Chameleon, But 2 Women in Body Paint

Johannes Stötter has incredible skill as a body painter. He composed and staged this elaborate scene. The two models are covered in paint. They work together perfectly to create the illusion that they are, together, a single chameleon climbing over a tree branch.

Content warning: slightly NSFW due to artistic nudity at the end, when the two models stand up.

Falling Monoliths Table

Do you remember the monoliths from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey? Chris Duffy designed this table to look like them. Specifically, he took inspiration from “The Sentinel,” the short story that led to the development of Arthur C. Clark’s Space Odyssey series. The Megalith Table is a glass table that rests upon a single moment in time. Duffy designed it as though time has frozen as the monoliths topple over.

This Woman Made Her Boyfriend Take a Beyoncé Exam to Stay in the Relationship

Allie Davis is a fan of the singer Beyoncé. Also, for the moment, she has a boyfriend. She wanted to test whether that latter status would remain. To verify the worthiness of her boyfriend, she gave him a formal written test on popular music. To avoid getting dumped, he had to earn at least 60%.

Costumed Babies Swimming Underwater

Seth Casteel, a photographer in Venice, California, has developed a specialty by capturing his subjects underwater. He makes crisp, clear images that show his subjects at perfect moments.

In the past we've seen Casteel apply his skills to puppies and adult dogs. His most recent photo book is Underwater Babies. You can guess what it shows: adorable babies swimming joyfully underwater. They're often costumed, such as the mermaid you see above. You can see more sample images here.

Man Throws Himself into Frozen Lake to Rescue Duck

(Photo: VG)

Last December, Norwegian man Lars Jørun Langøien saw a duck walk on the surface of a frozen lake. The ice was thin and collapsed under the duck. So Langøien dove into the icy water, swimming toward it. Another man, Yngvil Søholt snapped photos of the rescue.

The duck surfaced, but only under the ice. It couldn't break through to breathe. Langøien smashed through the ice and carried the duck to the shore. Then he breathed into its bill in order to resuscitate it. You can see more photos of this thrilling rescue at the tabloid Express.

This Machine Lays Entire Train Tracks

Plasser & Theurer, the manufacturer of the RU 800 S, calls it a “combination machine for continuous track renewal and bed clearing.” It appears to lay down and smooth a gravel bed, then add concrete railroad ties, then add steel tracks over the ties.

Slave Princess Leia Ariel

Professional cosplay photographer David Ngo attended WonderCon in Anaheim, California last weekend. He found master cosplayer Jessica: Maid of Might as Ariel from The Little Mermaid wearing Princess Leia’s iconic slave outfit from Return of the Jedi.

Jessica as made other variations of the slave Leia costume, including versions featuring Elsa and Rapunzel.

You can see more of Ngo’s WonderCon pictures here.

Feudal Star Wars Japan Tattoo

This man sports an impressive full-back tattoo that shows Star Wars characters in a style reminiscent of a Japan from long ago. Darth Vader battles Luke Skywalker in what appears to be their climactic duel at the end of The Empire Strikes Back. Princess Leia appears to be reading plans for the Death Star while R2-D2 looks on.

Characters from other shows appear, as well. Ignigokt and Err from Aqua Teen Hunger Force and a sandworm from Dune are on the right arm.

Eddie Stacey of Ink & Dagger Tattoo in Roswell, Georgia made this tattoo.

Fallen Crane at Museum Mistaken for Art Exhibit

(Photo: Troy Larkins/CBSDWF)

On Friday, a large crane at the Dallas Museum of Art in Dallas, Texas fell over. Thankfully, no one was hurt except for the operator, who escaped with only minor injuries. The crane damaged part of the outside of the museum building. It narrowly missed the large, red abstract sculpture that you see in the photo above.

It took a while to extract the crane from a yard in front of the museum. The museum was closed at the time, but later opened. Many visitors assumed that the crane was a new outdoor art installation that they had not previously heard of.

Email Cliches in Real Life

(Video Link)

Some people click on “reply all” instead “reply” (and vice versa). Others forget to include attachments. Some coworkers may forget to turn off their automatic out-of-office responses. What would these common email errors look like in real life? Comedians Tripp and Tyler show you in this funny sketch. It includes face-to-face versions of Nigerian banking scams, accidentally emailing the wrong person, and excessively long email signatures.

What Is This Mysterious Black Ring Hovering in the Sky?

(Video Link)

Recently, a large black ring appeared in the sky above Shortandy, a village in Kazakhstan. It hovered for about 15 minutes before gradually dissipating. What was the cause? Aliens? Bigfoot? Miss Cellania? No, nothing so fanciful. According to a physicist, it’s just smoke from a nearby factory. The Independent reports:

However, Andrey Solodovnik, associate physics professor at the Northern Kazakhstan State University, quickly put these rumours to bed saying that the giant hoop was most likely a large smoke ring caused by combustion from a nearby factory.
