Some Elementary Schools Are Getting Rid of Lunch in Their Cafeterias

(Unrelated photo by Delaware Agriculture)

And they're holding lunch in classrooms instead. Students move, class by class, to the cafeteria, get their food, then come back to their home classrooms

The Wisconsin State Journal reports that some schools in Madison, Wisconsin have found that doing so reduces behavior problems and makes transitions between activities easier:

Students describe their noon meal now as calmer, quieter and less rushed. Teachers say the children are better behaved and they eat more. […]

Principal Beth Lehman said that while Hawthorne’s cafeteria was by no means a nightmare, aspects of it were not ideal.

“You had all these children crowded in there like sardines,” she said. “They were excited to see each other, so they’d be whooping it up and talking instead of eating.” […]

Huegel Principal Abby Potter-Davis said behavior problems during the lunch period have all but dried up, and teachers report much less food waste.

Hawthorne teacher Rosa Burdulis said she likes getting to spend time with her fifth-grade students during a non-academic portion of the school day, which has led to more “community-building opportunities.” Her 15 students created a playlist of songs they enjoy listening to while they eat.

People Parked Cars in Front of This Man's Garage. He Used a Forklift to Put Them on the Roof.

(Photo: People's Daily Online)

The People's Daily Online reports that a garage owner in Qingdao, Shandong, China got tired of people illegally parking their cars in front of their garage. So he got a forklift, picked up two cars, then placed them on the roof of the garage. The Daily Mail reports:

According to reports, the owners of the two cars in question were unable to get their vehicles off the roof. This is because both the police and the garage's owner said they were not able to get involved as it was a 'private matter'.

In order to get their vehicles back, the cars' owners reportedly had to hire a forklift themselves to bring their vehicles down.

(Photo: An Indoor Lady)

Once you have your first baby, it is essential to book a shoot with a professional photographer so that you can have high quality photos to share on Facebook.

M.K. Paulsen and Ella Gale, who are comedians, don't have a baby. But they recently welcomed into the world an adorable little burrito. They commissioned photographer Erin Holsonback to take photos of the new family together. The result is a series of heartwarming images of a loving couple and their lunch. Disney's New Solar Farm Looks Like Mickey Mouse

(Photo: Near Map)

There are many hidden images of Mickey Mouse throughout Disney World. But you'll only see this one from the air. Disney World recently completed its largest hidden Mickey. It's a 11.5-acre arrangement of solar panels.

Disney worked with Duke Energy to develop the facility. It produces 5 megawatts, which is as much electricity as might come from 1,000 home rooftop solar energy systems. You can read more about it at the Orlando Weekly.

Terrifying Video: Shark Attacks Small Fishing Boat

You're going to need a bigger boat.

Fishermen off Frenchman Island in New Zealand recently encountered a Great White Shark. It repeatedly bit the motor on their boat.

That was pretty smart for the shark, don't you think? First disable your prey's ability to escape, then go in for the kill.

The fishermen don't appear to be concerned. They call out, "Oi! Oi!" as though they're offended, rather than frightened.

Twin Babies Fight over Pacifier

(Video Link)

There are two baby girls, but only one pacifier. They're sisters. But, come on, this is no ordinary pacifier. This is the Purple Pacifier.

King Solomon would offer the dad solution: cut the pacifier in half, then offer one half to each child. Then the problem is over.

Artists Turn Kids' Imaginary Friends into Reality

This is Mabel (left) with her imaginary friend Chloe (right). Mabel drew a picture of her special friend. Then professional artists made a full-size plush toy of her.

(Photos: Rankin)

It's a project led by the ad agency AMV BBDO. They worked with the best artists, so you'll recognize the names: Tsuneo Goda, who developed the character Domo, Becky and Joe, who created Don't Hug Me, I'm Scared, and Aardman Studios, which developed Wallace and Gromit.

The results are extraodinary. You can see more photos of the kids with their now-real imaginary friends at My Modern Met.

Pastry Ice Cream Cones Are the Greatest Invention in Human History

(Photo via redditor iBleedorange)

These are trdelník. They are pastries from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Street Food around the World: An Encyclopedia of Food and Culture describes them as a sweet dough made into long strands, then wrapped around wood or metal rods, then baked while rotating over an open fire. They're often coated with sugar, cinnamon, or nuts after baking.

In this case, an unknown genius has filled the hollow pastry with chocolate sauce and soft serve ice cream!

Finally! A Laptop Selfie Stick

(Photo: MacBook Selfie Stick)

Sure, selfie sticks are an essential tool for independent life. Every home needs, at minimum, a toilet plunger, a pair of pliers, and a selfie stick.

But what if you don't have a cellphone? Then that selfie stick won't be useful. You need a way to take photos of yourself with your laptop computer. That's why artists Moises, John Yuyi, and Tom Galle made a laptop selfie stick. Specifically, it's a selfie stick for a MacBook. They call it the MacBook Selfie Stick.

Do you see Tom Galle with his MacBook in Times Square? He's cool. You know why? Because he has a selfie stick for his MacBook. And you don't.

I don't have a laptop--just a desktop computer. Can I get a selfie stick for it?

For This Cosplayer, The Hijab Is an Essential Tool

Ariel from The Little Mermaid

For Saraswati, a makeup artist in Malaysia, the head scarf isn't an obstacle to effective cosplay. In fact, without it, she wouldn't be nearly as effective. She uses a wide variety of colors, fabrics, and arrangements to depict her characters perfectly.

Donut Hair

(Photo: unknown)

It's a fashion and a snack! Donut hair is the latest style for men, women, and long-haired dogs. I prefer mine jelly-filled, but icing and sprinkles are also good. Head to your local donut/barber shop and buy your own.

Brofist

Sure, in a legal sense, redditor schizophrenicwheel owns Magnus the tarantula. But they're actually just friends--bros, really. In the past, she gave him a birthday hat for an iguana's birthday party.

Then, a year ago, she gave him a plush stuffed tarantula as a toy. He responded affectionately with a brofist. That's a polite spider who stays up on modern etiquette.

This Guy Built a Functional Ice Sword

A few months ago, Allen Pan wowed the internet with a Mjölnir that only he (and, presumably, Thor) could pick up. It was a clever illusion that worked thanks to a powerful electromagnet and a fingerprint scanner keyed to Pan's thumb.

Now Pan is back with a new stunt. He built a sword out of ice. It's strong enough to chop through a watermelon, as well as decapitate helpless snowmen.

(Video Link)

Pan made of his sword out of Pykrete, which is a composite material of water ice and sawdust. It's a tremendously tough material--so much so that during World War II, the Allies considering building warships out of it.

Pan used toilet paper instead of sawdust for the wood component. His mix was 86% water and 14% toilet paper.

He shaped the Pykrete into a sword mold. It's a blunt object without an edge, but it's still strong enough to do a lot of damage. Just imagine that watermelon is a human head and you can see what Pykrete can do.

Pop-Tart Tequila Shots

You've got liquor. You've got sugary pastries. You've got deep frying.

This is a photo of human civilization.

Amy of the food blog Oh, Bite It loves her liquor and her deep fryer. She puts them together in this wonderful concoction called the Pop-Tart Tequila Shot. First, she prepared a batter of tequila and pancake mix. She dipped Pop-Tarts into batter, then deep fried them. Finally, she topped the traditional breakfast food with a glaze of lemon juice and sprinkles. Yummy! This will make getting the kids to eat breakfast so much easier.
