Billingsley is right: parents should discourage their children from posting photos and text online that would cause them shame and embarrassment later in life.
And that is why she should never have posted this photo of her daughter, nor conducted media interviews about it. Her actions were counterproductive.
I used to own a car that was particularly vulnerable to theft. Knock off the plastic around the steering column. Push a button, and the engine would start.
So for years, after I parked, I turned the wheel all the way in one direction. Then I attached a heavy chain between a center spoke of the steering wheel and the brake pedal. That way, if someone stole the car, he could only drive it in a circle.
He could still steal the car by cutting the chain, but it would be easier to just steal a different car. The ice cream pint lock does the same thing. It encourages a thief to steal a different pint of ice cream, which is hopefully a decoy rigged with explosives.
Edward, your comment was automatically placed in our moderation queue, probably because of the URLs in it. I decided not to approve it.
I'm glad that you're passionate about a political/social/moral issue. So am I. There are plenty of appropriate venues for discussing them, but Neatorama isn't among them. So I bite my tongue, and I suggest that you do likewise.
Imagine that you're at a cocktail party. We're all mingling while sipping wine and nibbling on hors d'oeuvres. We chat about light, fun topics -- Star Wars climbing holds and whatnot. Then you whip out pictures of animals being brutalized and show them off.
You may hold some sort of moral high ground, but you've chosen the wrong time to mount it.
But the adult massively overreacted and was in the greater wrong. You don't get to pound a child because he's a rude brat.
You've crushed my dreams.

That's a great crafting idea. My kids would get a kick out of having puppets on their ceiling fan.
