Back At The Skywalker Home...

This cartoon, that Geeks Are Sexy rightfully titled "You're A Skywalker, Not A Street Walker," just goes to show how everyone's adolescent years are pretty much the same -even Princesses.

Baking An Apple Pie With No Apples

Notice anything strange about the apple pie pictured here? If you noticed there were no apples at all, you are right. That because the picture comes from The Awl's recipe for an appleless apple pie that uses chemicals to trick your tastebuds. The most important ingredient? Cream of Tartar.

While you won't win any cooking contests with this recipe, you'll certainly be able to impress your chemist friends at your next dinner party.

The Inspector Spacetime Website

If you are a fan of community, you may have seen their parody of Doctor Who on an episode a few weeks back. If not, here's a link.

So why am I bringing this up now? As it turns out, the internet is even geekier than most of us imagine and the show's parody, called Inspector Spacetime, now has it's own fan page on Tumblr filled with speculation about who will play the next inspector and what the fan's favorite episodes are. Now that's something even a sitcom writer couldn't have predicted.

6 Cool and Real Spy Gadgets

It's easy to look at this picture and wonder, "why is this umbrella so special that it is locked in a glass case?" But that's before you learn it was a brilliant Soviet spy weapon:
So it was that one day, while Markov was walking to his car in London, he felt a sharp bite on his thigh. When he turned around he saw nothing, only a man who fumbled briefly with an umbrella before running off. The next day he became deathly ill, and died, as one is wont to do when becoming deathly ill. To this day no one has ever been tried for the murder.
Yes, a man shot him with an umbrella that held a BB gun covered in deadly poison. Read about more insane spy weapons over at Cracked.

How Do Blind People Clean Up After Their Dogs?

Have you ever wondered how someone who can't see can clean up their seeing eye dog's mess? Mental Floss has a great article that answers this burning question:
Dogs go into different stances depending on whether they’re peeing or pooping, and by running a hand down the dog’s back, the handler can figure out what’s going on. If the dog’s back is flat, it’s peeing — male guide dogs are trained to not lift their leg when peeing; they utilize the same “lean forward” pee stances that females use — and no cleanup if needed. If the dog’s back is rounded, handlers know some cleanup will be required. By feeling their way down the dog’s back to its butt and tail, they have a pretty good idea of where the poop is going to wind up. Once the dog is finished, the handler just leans down with their plastic bag and can find the poop pretty easily.

You Could Adopt Sirius Black

Or at least...his dog incarnation from the films. That's right, Berry, the gorgeous black dog that played Sirius Black when he was a dog in the movies, is now up for adoption because his owner doesn't have time to take care of such an energetic senior dog. The only catch -you have to adopt his best buddy Porridge too, but they make a great pair and are both movie stars, so that really shouldn't be much of a drawback.

Should David Tennant Light The Olympic Torch?

Doctor Who fans may remember the David Tennant episode "Fear Her," which involved Mr. Tennant lighting the Olympic torch in the 2012 London games. As it turns out, fans are trying to make this a reality, starting a petition to have Mr. Tennant play The Doctor as he lights the torch in the upcoming games.

If you're interested, you can sign the petition at the link. If not, well, it probably won't happen anyway, so don't do anything.

The Average Of All Fonts

With so many fonts out there, have you ever wanted to use something that's just "normal?" Designer Mortiz Resl combined almost 1000 fonts on his computer and the average font is what he came up with.
This project shows what a font would look like if it consisted of all typefaces installed on my system. Every character from a to z is drawn using every single font with a low opacity. In total there are over 900 typefaces in my library. I didn’t exclude the ugly ones.

What do you think? It seems pretty average to me.

Smuggler Caught With Hummingbirds In His Pants

Albino hummingbirds may be pretty rare, but for that matter, seeing someone walking around with shorts filled with hummingbirds isn't an every day sight either. It seems that releasing their birds from their bonds and putting them back in the man's pants might just be the best punishment for the smuggler.

You Can Help Name A Red Panda

Did you ever wish you could play a part in naming an adorable zoo animal? If so, head on over to the Binder Park Zoo website, donate one dollar towards the zoo's species survival program and vote on your favorite name for this adorable little red panda.
The choices and their translations are: Dagan, meaning grain of rice in Hebrew; Connolly meaning fierce in Gaelic; Reid meaning red-haired in Gaelic; Xu (pronounced “shoe”) meaning to snort in Chinese; and Di meaning younger brother in Chinese.

Which one would you choose? Personally, I like Di.
