As a person whos been in retail for 13 years, my guess would be that its almost always more costly to deal with shoplifting than let it happen. Especially if you work somewhere like Dollar Tree or Walmart or Big Lots. Places like these pay very little per product on the shelf, depending what it is. And theft can be written off at the end of the year, if I'm not mistaken. So the choice is, let them steal, write it off, and hope no one gets hurt. Or pay security to be there everyday and buy special security equipment to sound off alarms. Not to mention remodeling your store to accomodate security measures.

This sounds accurate. When I'm not at my regular job, I do graphic design on the side. And I'm definitely neurotic.

I duno, i feel like remote working, while feeding the ego, would certainly have plenty of drawbacks. Many people have a hard time getting motivated into exercise, for example. If you work somewhere, versus remote work, youre going to get plenty of exercise and blood flow regardless whether you want or not. Also you sharpen your people skills working around people - cant do that remote working. And thats just two examples. I wouldn't want to be in a close relationship with someone who only does remote work. Seems lazy, selfish, and parasocial. I'm sure you could do it temporarily, but doing that longterm cant possibly be good.
