I get Hawkmoths at my moonvines on a regular basis. Ya gotta love a moth whose eyes shine like a cat's in the dark...
We also get a lot of Polyphemus moths here. They're in the same family as the Luna, Io, and Atlas moths, and run about a five- to six-inch wingspread. Not as impressive as the Witch moth, but still makes you wonder if Tokyo's in trouble again!

With a thousand forms to choose from, Nyarlathotep's kinda whatever he WANTS to be. :-)
Now Cthulhu, on the other hand, is a prime example of your garden-variety, run-of-the-mill cephalopod-cephalic Great Old One. And looks good in a pinstripe suit, to boot!
OK, maybe that last part is an exaggeration... ;-)

saehn--they can also alter the surface texture of their skin. They use thousands of tiny muscles to pull up and pucker areas of their skin. This adds to their disguise and breaks up their outline. (Kinda like the ragged edges on a ghillie suit!)

I think our problem is, most of us women have an awful tendency to over-think stuff. We're just not naturally skilled at letting our minds just drift for a bit. Which is why we're also horrible about reading things into what someone else is saying, that aren't really there.
You can trust my word, too. I have 34 years of experience in this field... ;-)

I always told myself that if I was ever going to get a skin condition, I'd pick vitiligo. I frankly think it's beautiful to have such colorful skin!
Gail--I actually work with a woman who is pale, blonde, and blue-eyed. Her brother is tan, black-haired, and has brown eyes. They are both 100-percent related, not half-siblings. And they are both half Hispanic. It's hysterical to see people's reactions, because on their own you wouldn't think they were siblings. But they share so many physical features that the relation becomes glaringly obvious if they are standing together!
I never could understand the whole race thing myself, too. It's just skin, after all, and we're all the same color underneath.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asp_%28caterpillar%29
Way back in the hazy past, growing up as a poverty-stricken kid whose mother line-dried our clothes, we dreaded Spring. Spring was Asp Season. You always checked for fat fuzzy caterpillars before you put on any of your clothes, lest you suffer some PAINFUL consequences! I'd have welcomed a dozen scorpion stings, over one Asp sting...
