Not quite all. From that article:
Mr. Cochrane noted that while a large majority of the fires were on land that had already been cleared, many others were detected burning with particular intensity. He said these were likely deforestation fires, not just fires for clearing previously deforested land.

They're definitely related to agriculture: the deforestation fires are on the edges of the farms (as a mean to expand the arable lands, I'm sure).

NIMBY is alive and well, I suppose.
Here in Portland, we see a significant rise in homeless encampment beside freeways and on public parks. The people who live in them also seem to be very different: many of them are young and able-bodied, but are often strung out on drugs (even in broad daylight).

These are edge cases. There aren't that many 50-year-olds taking spaces that would've otherwise gone to young people that it's a significant problem. I'd rather take this as an opportunity to convey the positive message that it's never too late to better oneself (through education, career change, etc).
