Hah! Maybe use a tea candle that has a glass container? I don't think freshly cut logs are that easy to burn, but I suppose you should be extra careful with candles and open flames.

I think most of these you can do in a pinch using easily obtainable materials. Your definition of "last minute" may be a bit different than those throwing a Thanksgiving feast :)
