Big O's Comments

When I taught high school biology, we had a real human skeleton in the lab for study. It was from India, a female if I recall. Pat of the anatomy lesson was to discern male from female skeletal structure. The process they used to clean the bones is a bit grisly, using dermestid beetles.

THE Star Wars (episode 4 as it turned out) was one of the very few movies I went to the theater to see twice. Saw the next one once, but never saw any others at the cinema. I just don't go to them anymore.

Reminds me of when my older son, a teen at the time, found my pocket Pickett slide rule. He asked me what it was and I proceeded to show him. He was amazed. I gave it to him and he used it to check the numbers on his physics home work, one of the functions it was really good for. Isn't it funny we still say we are "dialing" someone when we call them on our cell phones?

Reminds me of when we were visiting our first granddaughter when she was little. She had one of the first "Tickle-Me Elmo" dolls. MrsO picked it up and set off the doll's mechanism. That it startled her is an understatement. Our Granddaughter laughed heartily as she thought it was so funny. The incident became part of family lore.

Funny that when I first saw the "headline" I thought this was about green insects, you know, bugs. Count me as a "denier" who has the opinion that all this "green" stuff is b.s. (bad science). I guess if swimming in harbors and canals is important, you'd live in Denmark.

MrsO told me about how hobos would show up at their house and her mother would give them some food. It was near the CN railroad tracks and their house was probably "tagged" to tell them where they could get a hand out.

MrsO made turkey soup today. I tested it and it's pretty darned good. Look forward to some lunches with it. She will freeze some of it for a later time.

Remembering years ago when WallyMart was selling a nice TV for what seemed like peanuts. The store was opening at 6 AM, and I went on my way to work early around 6:30 to buy one. They were all sold out! Found out later they only had like 10 of them. That was the end of my Black Friday shopping.

When I was Science Lab Technician at a local college here, I kept my "Recipe Book" full of ways to make things like 0.5 molar solutions of NiSO4. A veritable Chem Lab cookbook.
