Always enjoyed the story of the 3 brothers. I used them in my biology class discussions of identical siblings. Little did I know that years later I would become the Grandfather of identical twin girls.
On the utilitarian side, I knew a guy who lst an arm in farming accident. His prosthetic arm had a neat gadget that helped him shoot pool more easily that I could.
On a personal note, I can't recall the last time I had a $100 bill in my possession, let alone a $50 bill. When we were in Las Vegas in 1994, the casino ATMs only gave out $100s. When I was in college one year I paid my bill with 7 $100 bills just for the hell of it. I seldom carry more than $20 in cash these days.
One time I drove down a stretch of highway where a very good friend was killed. I had this eerie feeling he was in the back seat of my car. I would take alternative routes for that afterwards.
I had a great route of around 85 customers, made $15 a week. Sunday papers earned 5ยข. I'd get extras and sell them to people coming out of a large church nearby.
When I was a paper boy, the first Christmas I made over $100 in tips. I bought my Mother our first pop up toaster. Before we had the older type where you toasted one side and flipped to do the other. Remember those?
Years ago, I think I was around 18 or 19, my Mother and I were in the living room watching TV whem my brother, 4 years younger, came into the room and went over to Mom and asked her, :why do i have to pay the man the money?" My Mother said , "what money" and my brother responded "nevermind"and went back to his bedroom. I went after him and found him sound asleep. When I woke him up and asked him what was going on, he did not remember anything at all. Really strange. Of course he was not walking around with his hands out in front like Donal Duck in cartoons.
