Photo Series "Suffering the Silence" Reminds Us of the Unseen Struggles of Strangers

The saying "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle," in spite of the debate over its exact wording and attribution, is a profound truth. Every time we become frustrated by a minor inconvenience or less than optimal situation caused by a stranger, staying calm and gracious is best.

Photographer Amanda Crommett's series "Suffering the Silence" reinforces that notion with her photos of people who walk around looking as healthy as any other for the most part, yet are suffering from various diseases that are challenging to live with.

See the series in entirety here, and view the rest of Crommett's work at her website.

The Pink Dolphin of Louisiana

An exceedingly rare pink dolphin spotted previously in Louisiana has again been sighted. The adult bottlenose dolphin is occasionally seen swimming in the Calcasieu River. Boat captain Erik Rue says he recently saw the dolphin mating, so speculation is that she may now be pregnant. Rue said of his most recent Pinky sighting in an interview with ABC affiliate WGNO, “She looks happy and healthy.”

The reason for the tint of Pinky's skin is under debate. Some experts have said she's an albino of the species and others believe she may have a genetic condition in which her blood vessels are just under her skin, giving it the rosy color.

See a video of a previous Pinky sighting and read more about her at Mental Floss.

The Millennium Falcon in Asteroid Field Coffee Table

This coffee table featuring the Millenium Falcon skillfully weaving its way through an asteroid field was custom made by Richard Riley at Tom Spina Designs at the request of a customer. It's a thing of beauty, is it not? Nothing like a strongly implied Han and Chewie in your living room to add to the party.

Reimagining Disney characters is all the rage these days, and the princesses are ever popular subjects for transformation. Illustrator Joel Santana is a designer based out of Tampa, Florida who decided to strip the princesses of their wholesome costumes and outfit them in sexier garb. On top of that look, they are freshly inked, to boot.

Santana aptly named his bold collection the "Inked Princess Series." What do you think? Do you like your princess with a little "bad girl" thrown in?

Woman Puts Cheating Boyfriend's "Batmobile" on Craigslist

Amy Estrada of Livonia, Michigan must have been crazy in love with her boyfriend, because she purchased a Dodge Nitro for him when they were together. Estrada's now ex, whom she says was obsessed with Batman, ended up "tricking out" the vehicle with details such as a Batman logo that shines on the ground when either the passenger or driver doors are opened, among other features.

Once the extras were added, Estrada learned that her boyfriend's money didn't purchase them -- his other girlfriend's funds did! At that time, an incensed Estrada listed the car on Craigslist. She said in an interview with Fox 2 Detroit,

“I got that car for him in my name because I thought that he was going to love me forever.”

This man certainly had these women wrapped around his finger and trying to buy his affection. One has to wonder was his secret was. Via Uproxx

Iconic Dishes and the Cities That Made Them Famous

Toasted Ravioli | Image: Timothy Boyd

Everyone has their food favorites, but do you know where and how the recipe originated? Sometimes we eat foods in our own corners of the world and are surprised when they are nowhere to be found when we travel. Conversely, we may be on vacation and stumble upon a delicious dish that we are unable to forget. The linked article mentions a number of beloved foods and explains their origins.

One of those foods is toasted ravioli. The delicious, slightly crunchy yet soft and chewy outside has a flavorful filling of beef, cheese, spinach/artichoke or whatever is desired. Toasted ravioli originated in St. Louis, Missouri, specifically at Blueberry Hill, a lively restaurant and bar that often features live bands. As the origin story goes, a cook at the establishment "accidentally" dropped ravioli into a deep fryer instead of hot water. Whether it was an accident or not, the outcome was savory.

Learn about the origins of more iconic dishes here.
