3-Month Old Baby Subpoenaed to Testify in Court

Redditor aquatinne03 has an absolutely fascinating story. She says that her infant daughter has been issued a subpoena by her local district attorney’s office to testify in court on a certain date. Here’s a selection from her description of the problem:

I called the number on it to explain how it must be a mistake because my daughter is not even 3 months old yet but I was told there was no mistake and my daughter is required to appear as a witness to testify on the date shown on the subpoena. I went in person with my daughter to the DA’s office and was told the same thing. […]

My daughter has a rare and uncommon first, middle and last name, so it is very doubtful that there someone else with her exact name. When I called the number on the subpoena and went to the DA’s office I was told both times that if she doesn’t show up for court a warrant will be issued for her arrest. Would the police actually arrest a baby for not showing up in court?

Tourbillon Will Turn You Every Which Way But Loose

(YouTube link)

Would you be interested in a thrill ride like this? It looks a bit like Jodie Foster’s space vehicle in the movie Contact. The new ride is called called Tourbillon, and it’s in operation in Switzerland. No word yet on whether riders end up traveling through a wormhole. I think I’ll pass, but that’s only because I pass on all thrill rides these days. Then again, if the wormhole thing works, you might be able to talk me into it. -via Geeks Are Sexy

Awesome Images Of Pop Culture Icons Created Using Stock Photos

Photoshopped art pieces generally fall into two different categories- addition and subtraction. Either something is added to the original image or subtracted from it, which generally makes spotting a Photoshopped image quite easy.

But the digital artworks created by Jeff Chapman aren’t so easy to categorize, and the way Jeff creates these amazing looking images of iconic characters from pop culture is quite complicated.

Jeff uses various pieces from stock photographs, with some additional digital painting and visual effects, to create highly detailed images of strong and sexy pop culture superstars. Here's a glimpse into the making of this striking portrait of Elsa from Frozen:

A Cross Bladed Axe Splits Wood Faster Than Ever Before

Instructables member KH4 isn't sure whether he should call his invention the cross bladed axe or the crossed blade axe. He cut an axe blade in half, then welded those pieces to opposing sides of another axe blade. Now when he splits a log, it breaks into four pieces instead of just two:

A Brief History of PG-13

There’s no argument that the MPAA ratings system for movies has wandered far afield of what was intended when it was first introduced in 1968. At the time, most movies were rated G and the whole family went to see them. Now, a G-rated movie is pretty much aimed at young children, and PG is almost there. The rating modern movies want is PG-13, the new rating introduced in 1984, so the lucrative teenage market can get into the theater and know they will see the the maximum adult content allowed for them.

This video from Pitchfork explains how we got to this point. You’ll find a more involved article about the PG-13 rating at The Dissolve. -via Metafilter

Watch Mark Hamill’s Original Screen Test for Star Wars

(Video Link)

Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford sit in the control room of the Millennium Falcon. Their destination, Alderaan, is nothing but radioactive debris. They’re not in costume nor on a proper set. They’re just sitting in chairs and convincingly performing a selection from an early draft of Episode IV. At the 4:01 mark, you can hear George Lucas voicing his approval. Obviously Hamill is the right man to save the galaxy and revive the Jedi Order.

The Jelly Film

(vimeo link)

This is a film by Jenny van Sommers using jellies made by Bompas & Parr.

“Jellies all have distinct personalities and everybody relates to a different one,” says van Sommers of the appeal of each delectable that marks her first foray into film. “The one on the bottom right is a bit of a shoe-gazer (like me). Then there's the super-extrovert on the top right-hand side. The orange jelly is the person who is always in a good mood. And the brown one is the person at the disco who is standing there and then suddenly gets a burst of energy and really goes for it, then gets embarrassed and stops dancing. He's a bit of a weirdo."

The song is “Let Go of Letting Go” by Social Skills. -via Everlasting Blort

Elders React To Mortal Kombat X

The first Mortal Kombat arcade game debuted in arcades back in 1992, when those who are considered senior citizens nowadays were full grown adults.

That means many of them don’t get the appeal of video games, much less a video game where you finish your opponent by ripping their spine out or tearing their still beating heart from their chest.

The latest entry in the series Mortal Kombat X features the goriest and most depraved fatalities yet, so what will elders who already don’t get the appeal of gaming think about this stepped up level of violence?

(YouTube Link)

Surprisingly, some of them seem to really get into the gore in the latest video by REACT, and even though they couldn't pull off any fatalities their competitive natures make them call out for the blood of their opponents!
