I'm confused about the Smoot. I would have assumed it was the length of his body (5'7"), but then it says that they had to roll his body across the bridge to measure the distance, which suggests that the unit of measurement was the diameter of his body, not the length.
This isn't about big government vs little government, and it has NOTHING to do with public education. It's about common sense and respect for others. Somewhere in the system, one individual made the decision to send that medal COD.

New Yorkers get along pretty well, despite all the religious, cultural, and racial differences. I think being crammed so close together and forced to deal with each other makes people LESS prone to hatred and strife. It also forces them to create a common culture that tends to override their individual differences.
Another important thing to consider: IQ Test results are not a good measure of intelligence, especially the kind often given online. The only thing IQ Tests (especially online ones) test is your ability to take IQ tests.
On the other hand, the benefit of a poll like this is that it's given me a "suggested reading list" that should last me a long time!
