I'd argue that past a certain age they don't share mostly the same environment. They may go to the same school, but their different peers make it a different experience.
HERE'S A CONUNDRUM: What about conjoined twins? They share identical genes, identical birth order, and identical environments. The only thing that varies environmentally between them is the way in which they are attached and their health i.e. one may be the "weaker" twin or may be attached in such a way that puts them at a disadvatage compared to the other twin. Yet every story I've read about conjoined twins implies that they have different personalities. Maybe it's something they subconsciously create together so as to be seen as individuals.
One prominent theiry they didn't mention is birth order. Apparently the order in which we are born relative to our siblings can influence our personalities due to the changing context of the family dynamic with eldest siblings often being more extroverted, middle children being more introverted etc...
Another is the influence of our peers. While children do have generally identical home environments, it has been argued that past a certain age, friendship groups have a far greater influence on behaviour and personality than family.
@ Courageous Grace A study I read a while ago found that rubbing the boo-boo only worked when the individual rubbed it, not when others did. Maybe kissing the boo-boos of children is more about reassurance and comfort? I do recall it helping when I was a youngling.
He could have held his finger in front of the dog's face and moved it closer while the dog focused on it until his eyes were crossed and worked from there.
Regardless of how he did it, it's very impressive!
In Australia, Christmas is right around the hottest time of the year, so while some maintain the "traditional" baked dinner, most are coming around to how inappropriate such a meal is in the middle of Summer.
Most Australian families tend to have a BBQ with lots of prawns (not shrimp), salads, and alcohol, which is A-OK by me.
Stem cell treatment it usually quite expensive. Assuming that this treatment can be used to create a reliable cure, I hope that scientists can find a way to make it affordable for the people who need it most.
No doubt the vatican will credit god rather than the hardworking scientists with the finding of such a cure to undo so much of the damage that has been done by Christian missionaries in Africa over the decades spreading messages of the sinfulness of contraception use. (NB: This is not an attack on Christians but a criticism specifically of the missionaries who have spent time in Africa spreading the BS, and the Vatican who encouraged it).
@Gauldar LOL! Love that one. Heard James Randi use it at a speech last week.
"There is no documentation of the dif-fering strengths of the placebos that are currently available"
There are actually lots of studies on the differing strengths of placebos.
The placebo effect is stronger for injections than pills, big pills than small pills (unless they're really small), green pills than red pills, pills with fancy packaging than pills in plain packaging, pills administered by a doctor in a white coat than a doctor in a t-shirt, and pills administered by a doctor in a t-shirt than a nurse.
